Potential buyers plan Hard Rock Park overhaul

At least two groups hope to get their hands on the deed for Hard Rock Park, but making the winning offer will only be the first hurdle to overcome. Theme park experts say the park needs a major overhaul to be successful, and that involves quickly pouring money into things such as new rides, a name change and aggressive marketing efforts.

Worst. Song. Ever. , Hopeman.

$35 sound like a great price for what the park offers.

I think it would be a really good idea for the park to offer it's concert stage for big named touring acts. They could charge extra for large concerts. How big is that stage anyways? Is it large enough to schedule big name, popular bands who are regularly on tour right now? That would bring more locals in also.

As much as I love Weird Al, I don't know how popular he is with kids these days. Back when he had that awesome Saturday morning TV show, maybe.

Kid's Bop stays pretty popular. Or what about Yo Gabba Gabba? "There's a party in my tummy. Yummy yummy!" I'd make a special trip for that!

I'm thinking licensing a band's music and likeness costs a pretty penny. No different than any real world situation. Business is business.

A similar topic was discussed awhile ago on a hockey forum I also frequent. The subject was music that's played at arenas during sporting events. A poster there came up with something to the effect that you'd be dealing with the music publishers (BMI or ASCAP), rather than individual artists-- if the artists have their music published by one or both of them. The licensing agreement would depend on several factors, including the size of the audience, the frequency the song is played, and the duration of the event. So for a theme park, I imagine the costs would be pretty substantial.

Of course, that only includes music. The likenesses would be another story. There you'd probably be dealing with trademarks.

You are absolutely correct, RGB.

RGB is always right!

Yeah, ASCAP/BMI is very different from what the park arranged for specific attractions. It's not just licensing performance rights of the music, it's essentially everything about the bands' "brand," including their image and name.
