This is probably nothing, but I figured if anyone would know, someone on here would -
On my way home from a hockey game late last night, I passed three large trucks on Interstate I-79 headed south (near Pittsburgh). Two were carrying large steel columns which wouldn't be cause for news except that the third truck looked like it was carrying either track that had a support structure that could have been either Morgan, Arrow or B&M. I'm not positive as I passed them at a relatively high speed (luckily no cops around) and it was really dark, but I definitely did a double-take. Anyone heard of any use for that kind of track either at Kennywood or points close to it? Or did I see nothing?

NITRO ~ The most EXPLOSIVE coaster on the planet!
talk about a true coaster enthusiast if you can spot trucks carrying tracks and columns on a highway.....:)
I'd like to think so!! =) That track is very distinctive though, and the fact that it was semi-covered, like they didn't want anyone to see ...
Must be the natural engineer in me
If B&M is fab. in Cincinnati, are Morgan or Arrow ever contracted out to someplace north of Pittsburgh that would use I-79 to transport? I know Arrow is based in Utah, where is Morgan?

Now i dont get this. B&M manufactures out of Cincinnati, but PKI STILL doesnt have a B&M!! They ahve the money, and i'm willing to bet the shipping charges would be lower. PKI needs a nice B&M. Maybe a clone, but they need one. Just my opinion.
True, but CCI's headquarters are a stone's throw from PKI and they don't have one of theirs. Personally, I hope PKI doesn't get any B&Ms. It gives me a reason to head up to CP. :)

Maybe it is Geauga Lake's new coaster?
Well assuming it was coaster pieces, I-79 south in Pittsburgh is exactly the wrong direction to be heading for SFWOA.

Maybe the driver needed to make a pitstop.

Hehe, maybe Bigkirby - but if you're familiar with the area the only routes that make sense heading to SFWOA through the area are I-80, and I-76 (the turnpike).
If he was heading south on 79 before Pittsuburgh he was in the North Hills/Cranberry area or thereabout. I guess that could make sense for the turnpike but that means the truck was coming from the east. Does any track come from the east coast? If he was taking I-80 he's still heading east (and way off track if he's as far south on I-79 near Pittsburgh. And again, would track be trucked from a location east of Pittsburgh.
Now that I'm thinking about it - rt. 422 would also get you to the SFWOA area, but that doesn't make sense for a truck driver to use 422 as a long term route and again, the east to west thing comes into play. If it was indeed coaster track then it probably was moving south from the area, not west.
Then again, it may not even have been coaster track!

I have heard some rumors about a new coaster at Kennywood. I think it would be a looper and I'm wondering, is Morgan going to get into the looping coaster buisness? But I think that if they got a coaster it would be an Arrow looper. I don't know why, just a gut feeling.

~I rode my first coaster June 2001 and since then I have ridden 43 different coasters!
Maybe Idlewild? When was the last time they got a new coaster.
Kennywood got PR last year. Lake Compounce got Boulder Dash in 2000. Maybe it's time for somthing new at Idlewild.
My only other guess (a bad one at that) is Williams Grove. They have the infamous Cyclone, and they got a Wildcat the other year (2 years to put it together) maybe there going for a small looper.
All this speculation and no one even knows 100% for sure if it was even coaster track and supports, not even the person who SAW THE TRUCK! You guys make me laugh ;-)
Matthew - who thinks it was probably supports and scaffolding for a large billboard.
