Police evacuate Universal Orlando garage after fight

Posted | Contributed by BrettV

From the OPD Twitter post:

Our officers responded to the parking garage at the 6000 block of Universal Blvd. regarding a fight between several juveniles. Out of an abundance of caution, the premises are being evacuated as our officers ensure everyone is safe.

NO shots fired & NO injuries reported.

Man, I know Universal is always trying to one-up Disney, but this doesn't seem like the right way to go about it.

It's classist to say it, but Universal attracts a different crowd. And since the pandemic, it seems like they're pricing too low for the demand that have. Again, the industry has to get out of this more-bodies-is-better.

Not quite there, buts it’s close to being a ‘Six Flags type of crowd’.

Well, whether or not class has anything to do with it, Universal seems more likely to attract groups of unchaperoned teens or young adults who (not to be ageist about it) are more likely to get into brawls. Not just because of price, but because of the mix of attractions.

(Not uniquely likely, of course. I think we’ve seen that this even happens with the Jazzy Chair set.)

Disney and Universal have fights the same week; At Disney it's because it's crowded and hot and that's stressful; At Universal it's because it's cheap and attracts a bad crowd? Ok.

I really don't think pricing has anything to do with any of this. We don't even know if any of the kids involved actually went to the parks. You can park at City Walk after 6 or 7 for free just like you can park at Disney Springs all day for free.

Because here at Disneybuzz, oh wait...

If you frequent both, you know there's a difference in the crowds. Y'all can put away your silly bias accusations. No one here is particularly precious about either resort.

I am a Universal fanboy. I have no problem recognizing that. I’ve been to Universal more in the last year than Kennywood which is a 15 minute drive away from me. The parks attract different crowds because of course they do. They are two very distinct places.

Universal IS more affordable than Disney but it’s far from cheap and again, this happened in the parking garage which you also use to visit City Walk which is not affordable when compared to a normal shopping mall which incidentally, there was a fight at one mentioned in the same article. But is that actually what is contributing to fights or are crowded places stressful and conflict inducing? Or better yet, do people not know how to act in public?

Here are some more fights from Disney within the last year. I searched for “Disney brawl” and narrowed my results to a year. I didn’t try very hard.

And here are a couple from Universal for good measure. Again, I didn’t try very hard and got bored but I’m sure I could find just as many as I did Disney.

Could the movie theater at Citywalk be something that attracts the teen crowd?

It's getting to the point where everyplace needs a teen chaperone policy in some way. Thanks to the internet and social media these kids have no fear of getting in trouble. They can see online that there really aren't any consequences.

Here in the Chicagoland area, most malls and even some downtown areas have teen chaperone policy's on Friday and Saturday nights already. I'm also surprised SFGAm hasn't had enough problems yet where they have had to implement a chaperone policy.

Kids these days!

I am not convinced that this is anything new and many of these are between grown ass adults.

It must be the matching shirts. Those are pricey.

What's new is that so many people carry so many guns everywhere that an ordinary fight among teenagers causes police to evacuate an entire parking garage.

True, it might have happened a lot more then it was reported back then. Now that everyone has a video camera in their pockets, it creates for a more compelling news story.

^Similar to a coaster train stopped on the lift.

I think a bigger question to ask is why all these fights seem to be taking place in American parks. There've been a bunch of them this year – and I don't recall ever seeing a similar story from elsewhere in the world.

Is it surprising that the country with all the mass shootings would have fights at malls and theme parks? Or maybe the reporting is different.

Also... football hooligans are a thing around the world.

Here are a few theme park fights from the UK. Again, I didn't try very hard. Just searched "alton towers fight" and "thorpe park fight".
