Plethora of construction updates at Twisted Rails from So Cal to down under

Posted | Contributed by Karl DeAngelo

Magic Mountain continues to prepare X for opening day with little touches being added around the ride. Knott's Berry Farm has gone vertical with VertiGo and continues to get the Halloween Haunt mazes ready. In Australia, Dreamworld begins to erect supports for the re-birth of the Big Dipper.

Also recently added is a photo gallery and video showcasing the rides of the 2001 L.A. County Fair which ends on September 23.

The queue area for X has really shaped up nicely. I much prefer this to the rat mazes most parks build for their steel coasters.

Yes, I agree.  The queue looks nice.  If only Six Flags would do something with the areas under their coasters!  ;)  I love dropping on Medusa and seeing old parking spaces underneath the structure.  ;)

cool pics as always, thanks karl

HEY!  On the Fair area, they have a thing called "Speed Track".  That's Vekoma's new invention!  Go to Vekoma's website and they have something having to d with LSM's...that is just a very scaled down version of what Vekoma has proposed that was at the fair.  COOL!

If you see me running, try and keep up!

Does X have a theme? I hate seeing Six Flags building "awesome looking" (I only say that because no one has been on it, and know one knows if it's going to be a hit) coasters, and not themeing them.

Can't wait until my first ride on X in December ;)

Current Favorite Coasters:
1)Raging Bull 2)Millennium Force 3)Medusa (SFMW) 4)Vertical Velocity (SFGAm) 5)Dueling Dragons (Ice)

Theme it to what though? A giant X?

That's almost as tough as trying to come up with a theme for Millennium Force. For a coaster to be themed correctly, it needs to be done at the time of conception, otherwise it's just a bunch of silly add ons.

I think an Area 51 theme would have worked nicely, if done *correctly*. I don't know if I would trust SFMM with extensive theming...

It always surprises me that fairs have much better flat rides than most parks do. Sometimes I would rather go to a fair for the flat rides than a park for the coasters. I wish more parks would invest in flat rides(as well as coasters). Anyway great pics as always.

These were the same rides featured at the Del Mar fair in San Diego. The collection of flat rides is impressive! And yes, it rivals most parks. Man, I'd kill for my very own Hi-Miler. What a nifty ride! This thing is better than most large permanant coasters I've been on. I just may have to head down to Pomona this weekend.

Yeeee Haaawwww!
The Hi Miler isn't that great.
Those turns really need to be banked...OUCH
But it does have good airtime.
I rode it at the Orange COunty Fair.

Knotts Halloween Haunt!!
29 years and still screaming.

The Hi Miller is good for a fair coaster...and that is it.  It is a little rough but the turns stink!  They do a very tight turn then go straight then tight turn again.  It woul help if they were banked and one nice smooth turn.

Id be a little scared to get on a Coaster with a chainlift looking as crooked as that.

if you're scare of a lifthill that crooked, stay away from Conneaut Lake's Blue Streak. :)

-*Flyers, your flight is clear, ready to go in 3-2-1- FLY!*-

I love SFMM (as the name implies), but the X thing isn't really working for me only because of it's location and bad theming to Baja Ridge. I love the fair at Pomona because the rides kick *** (fill it in). Knott's will fly high with Vertigo, I'm sure, and as for Australia, well, I'm sure that the "Land Down Under" will have some good tricks up it's sleeve.
