Please help me with this

I am having a hard time with which airport to fly into for going to knotts. On travelocity it says that the san diego airport is closer to it. I was told to go to John Wayne in Orange County. Plus i am trying to make in on the sunday after solace, because of school conflictions. This is because Xcelerator is getting maintenence and i want to ride it before they do it that monday. So i wish i had some clues here. Anyone that know is free to Private message me or leave something in the forum i really want to go and i need your help.

San Diego is NOT close to Knott's.

I *think* your best bets would be LAX, John Wayne, or Burbank (though Burbank is about an hour or so north... better than the 2 hours south to San Diego, though).

Ok so how long does it take to get there from John Wayne. It mentioned like 35 miles from san diego to buena park. This is according to travelocity from the aarp website that my parents belong to. This is getting so confusing

Took me less than a minute to find out on Mapquest, that San Diego to Buena Park is 101 miles and John Wayne Airport to Buena Park is 19 miles.

Distances to Knotts, with airport codes for mapping purposes:

Long Beach [LGB] - 14.5 miles
John Wayne [SNA] - 20 miles
Los Angeles Intl [LAX] - 28 miles
Burbank [BUR] - 33 miles
Ontario [ONT] - 34 miles
San Diego [SAN] - 105 miles

FYI...it took me less than 5 minutes to find that info using Yahoo Maps.

thanks again, i know i must sound like a repetitive idiot in these cases, but it showed me the wrong thing. Also is the maintenence always going on there or is it just during select months. Cause im gonna try and make it for the last run of Xcelerator and come back the next day to hit the park again. That would equal coaster credit whoring but i may not be out that way for a long time to come, especially since they split maintenence issues with boomerang and xcelerator for following one another. Plus i know in the past the boomerang has run for solace, but it mentions that they are putting the maintenence to work on it during it

When I went maybe two summers ago, we flew into LAX and rented a car and got to Knott's in about twenty-twenty five minutes. It was pretty much a straight shot from the airport, and there was hardly any traffic at that time. Unfortunately Xcelerator was closed and Silver Bullet was closed. :( But I had plenty of fun with Montezooma's Revenge. :) Have fun!

Depends on the park. Can you be more specific??

like on the website it mentions xcelerator is down for maintenence in march from the 13-26 do they do that just during less busy months of the season.

Since our parks are open year around they must pick less-busy times of the year to close rides for maintenance. For example, Ghostrider typically is closed for a few weeks prior to the Solace event, then again for a few weeks prior to Haunt.

You don't say when you're visiting So Cal to go to the parks but if you're here after April 1 you'll have a good chance of finding few rides closed.

I was really suprised how "short" the drive from San Diego to Knotts is - I think it's under 1.5 h - but of course it doesn't compare to the distance between Knotts and LAX (even though I am absolutely suprised to hear the difference is 70 Miles - my feeling said it had to be less - I guess the Force wasn't with me there).

airtime for everyone
Unfortunately moosh im coming a day after the saturday solace event. That sunday actually, and then Xcelerator is said to be down, that monday for maintenence. Anyhow i should say if i get there sunday will they operate it the whole day or shut it down for the readying of maintenence. I mean it is a major point there for me to try and ride it. But if i dont it actually seems to be no big disappointment, because i have dragster and hour away from my house so it would be a long while before i did get to ride it is all. Lets just say i wont be disappointed, more worried about when to make it back.

All of Knott's coasters will be open the weekend of Solace but yes, beginning that Monday you may find Xcelerator closed. And I suggest you check SFMM's website...I don't think they're open daily then, only weekends.

Why aren't you coming for the events at Knotts and SFMM that weekend?

I got a midterm on friday at school unfortunately and then my riding buddy my mom has some appointment on saturday. So sunday is when we are coming out. I wish Magic Mountain would be operating that monday go figure if you check operating schedules for them i think the following monday they are. I win some and lose some, so i figure to hit knotts for a few hours on sunday and then if i dont finish it up then go back monday and also check out some sites on monday. Then check out some stuff for the rest of the time there, my schedule doesnt work out to well to keep me there all week though. I dont know if i will make it back this year so i figure get as much out of it as possible.

SFMM is open until 8pm Sunday. You can't hit that park after you land? After all Knotts is open daily?

Seriously man...you should come back when you're out of school *AND* when Tatsu is open and Xcelerator and other rides are all open. I really think you're wasting your money.

I know it sounds really bad. But i guess the main thing is got a bigger trip planned for later in the summer to hit up east coast things on the way to and from getting my brother out of the navy. I know i feel the same way but it my shot for it now. I know i feel kinda stupid about it too, but if it wasnt for my mom really wanting to go then there would be other times, but she has all this crap going on and she is a coaster rider as well.

I hope you didn't think I was being harsh. You and your mom will have a great time! Enjoy what's open and don't worry about what you miss. Chances are it'll be around the next time you're out here ;)

Think of it as a taste of paradise. ;) Luckily, with so many airports here, it's pretty easy to make a cheap trip just about any time of year. You'll get a better idea of the area so you'll know how you would like to plan a trip for the future.
