Played Beatmania

I stopped by the bowling alley on the way to work today to check out the rumored new Beatmania machine. The rumor is confirmed, it's there! So add that to the short list of non-DDR arcade music games in Central Ohio. (There is one Pump It Up and one Guitar Freaks as well).

I played 4 games of Beatmania. It's pretty fun. It's a 6th mix, but there were very few songs on it... I think maybe 20. It's exactly like Guitar Freaks, only instead of strumming a guitar, you hit one or more of the five buttons, and instead of tipping the guitar neck up in the air at certain times, you scratch a turntable.

I thought it'd be loaded with songs I recognized from DDR, but it wasn't... only two, Hysteria 2001 and Air. Still, I liked the songs I played.

My conclusion is that this might be a good game to play while I'm waiting for DDR, but I'm not going to get addicted to it. Guitar Freaks is much more fun.

btw, I couldn't leave without playing one game of DDREx, but I failed an easy song because the hideous pad was registering about every other step. Sad, this used to be the best place to play in town.

btw again, it's not a good idea to try to play DDR in dress shoes and a nice shirt that you don't want to get sweaty. ;)

If you get a chance, Den, see if you can find a way to get to a Beatmania 9th style. They have tons and tons of songs, many of which i recognized from DDR simply by hearing people play. It was cool; someone was playing Frozen Ray on BM, while i was doing it on DDR. :)

My arcade has a Beatmania, and to tell you the truth, I'm not really a fan of it. I've played it three times and each time it never really grabbed me.

Maybe it's because I much more distracted by the two DDR machines and Dance Maniax. :)
