Plans for Seaworld San Diego

Anybody hear anything about plans for adding more attractions to Seaworld in San Diego?
They are adding a Journey to Atlantis ride, similar to the one in Orlando.

Cool...well...kinda...I would have prefered a full-blown RC...(Eel??).

Thanks Sr. Peanut!
I don't think you'll see a coaster at Sea World San Diego. There is a extreme amount of local resistance to this. When they applied for a height variance, that was the subject that created the most noise. Water attractions caused much less concern with the local residents. SWSD is the original, flagship park and now is the smallest one. It is also operating on land leased from the city of San Diego. There are many more factors involved that would pretty much shoot down any chance of major coaster being built at this park.

From what I understand, the height variance passed.

Yes it passed, but any project has to be submitted to the city of San Diego (who is the landlord) and the California Coastal Comission. All the variance does is allow them to submit plans for a project that may be built to the maximum. It is no guarentee that a coaster (or any high ride for that matter) will be built. The permit process is very long and drawn out, with many public hearings on both the local and state level. In other words, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

No. And I live here and work for the approving authority. The original plan was to put in a coaster, but it was voted down in the first round over a year ago. Instead the coaster went to Florida.

If memory serves, in this industry, any zone hearings should stay behind the closed doors.
