I agree that Gettysburg and Horseshoe Curbe are both great non-coaster diversions.

as for Hockey and Coasters... a double edged sword. Traveling to the New England / New York Parks it is like an AHL hockey tour, you are either in or pass near by many hockey "towns". Problem is... when its park season, no hockey, and vice versa... Can't see much hockey on park trips, can't see many parks on "hockey trips"... only late or early in the season or maybe the playoffs.
We lucked out two years ago... Hershey played the Norfolk Admirals in early April. Made a mini vacation out of it... Stayed in Norfolk... Wed = hockey game, Thrusday = BGW, Fri = hockey game.
That's the great thing about Hersheypark in the Dark... no excuse not go get there... just go a few hours early for the hockey game and go to the park first.

Up until the past year the Bears (AHL) played in the Hersheypark Arena (adjacient to the park) before moving into the new GIANT Center across the street (sharing the same parking lots and entrance). If you went into at least one of the refreshment stands of the old arena and stepped out onto the boucany, you were basically looking out into the park. Up until the move to the new building, each season ticket for hockey came along with between 3 and 4 one day passes to the park... (order the hockey seats in March for the following year, get the park passes to use for the summer)... but that stopped when the move to GIANT Center occured. There are two games this year when every fan in attendance gets a one day pass for the park good from opening day to July 4, 2004. The late Lloyd Blinco, one of the "suits" at the park back in the 1960's used to play hockey for Hershey.
Last year the Bears were ousted from the playoffs by the Chicago Wolves. You mentioned the Blackhawks... the Norfolk Admirals (one of Hershey's divisional rivals) are the AHL farm team of the Blackhawks.
As stated though... the hockey season and the park season doesn't really overlap unless the Bears go deep into the playoffs in the spring / early summer, or during Hersheypark in the Dark on three weekends in the fall.

Anyways, your golfer will find a course (do know if it a good or bad one, I find golf to be an exerscise in frustration myself ;)) just a mile or so from Knoebels on Rt 487.
Also, if you have a railfan or two, Altoona not only boasts the fantastic Horseshoe Curve, but also the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum, which is just about a mile from Lakemont and is very interesting.
Finally, you may want to visit the Land of Little Horses outside of Gettysburg. They have no coaster, but do have a 1929 aluminum carousel, one of the first, that was at one time at the 1939 New York Worlds Fair.
