Phantom Theater, PKI's haunted dark ride attraction, will be closed for good early next week. The ride, which opened in 1992, is housed in a show building formerly occupied by "The Smurfs Enchanted Voyage," and "Hanna-Barbera's Enchanted Voyage."
It's always sad to see a ride go. I'm glad I got to ride it before it went, but I wasnt terribly impressed with the effects. Its probably because I miss the Smurf's Enchanted Voyage.... Memories.
I guess all we can do is hope that a better ride lands in its place.

Hey man. Wanna buy some weed? Crack? Freepass on Millennium Force? I got the hook up...
"Want some heat?" "You'll be baaaaaack!!"
I for one am very disappointed to read this! Sure, it was NO Disney haunted mansion but you must admit, the line was always very fast, and on a hot day, that place was SO nice and cold! I can proudly say that my kids and I knew EVERY SINGLE line of the entire "show" by heart

I don't know why the park wouldn't wait until the end of the season to shut it down, unless there were major maintenance problems. You can't tell me that whatever they are going to do to the ride couldn't have been done between October and April.
That said, perhaps they have a great concept on the way.

Wahoo Skipper,
My guess is that it will be used for FearFest before it is completely renovated.

The park doesn't have poor capacity. You don't fill a park with rides that cost money which people aren't riding constantly(like Phantom Theatre and KCKC), so again, please don't make absurd comments. Thank you. Both of the rides taken out should be getting a replacement next year. I've never seen the park randomly remove rides, so I assume that's not the case.
I'm really glad I slipped in for a first/last/only ride during the CPlaya 100 before it was too late. Okay, a second ride as I did board in '78 for the H-B adventure.
I gotta admit I never noticed the 'cold blasts' as effects at all....I just silently thanked God for A/C.

I assume you mean the furnace doors? Just because the furnace doors were not open is not why you did not feel the heat.
Hee Hee! PKI had you fooled. The hot air actually is emitted from a vent above your buggie not from the furnace. They just did not have the "heat" turned on.

Yes Mamoosh....
I think the original subject and article can be misleading. PKI is closing the ride after this Sunday (that is fact folks, ride it soon) although the building that houses it will remain. The ride itself is closing and immediate removal remains to be seen.
I would suspect that we may see the gates permanently shut, the sign removed and a sign placed there immediately announcing the new attraction.... Perhaps even prior to the closure..........
The closure early in the season leads me to believe that the theming of the new attraction will be great and warrants an extended period of time to construct. Also, I know for a fact that the mechanics used on the current attraction that operate the mechanical characters are quite extensive. All that must be removed... and will be... delicately.... for preservation. However, you will not see these components at another park.
I will miss Phantom Theatre a great deal. But, I expect the park is doing their part in preserving the attraction via photos and perhaps videos etc. PKI is pretty good at keeping records of former attractions. It may show up again in some nostalgia book or videos about the park.
Jinkees, wouldn't that be cool?
Oh and by the way, I do not expect it to be used during Fearfest as I expect the super groovy new attraction's construction will be underway. Like wow gang.
