PKI steps up security!

I went to Paramount`s Kings Island for my 30th time this year and to my surprise, they had people checking bags, fanny paks and back packs as well as security gaurds with metal detector wands at the front entrance. In my opinion, I don`t think on busy days or times that they will be able to check every bag or even get a lot of people through the gates quickly with the way they have it set up now.  It took me a while to get through the gate at 9:20 this morning!

SFGAm has always had metal detectors, wands, and they can check any bag they feel like.  Welcome to the rest of the world, Ohio.
They have always made you open your bag so the guards can search in it @ PKD. Always a good move IMHO.
They were not doing this last Sunday. It will be interesting to see if they are doing it tomorrow (Sunday) or next Sunday, or closing weekend.
Why? It's only a guess...and a hopeful one at that...but remember they've got FearFest going on right now on Friday and Saturday nights. In order to check out all the FearFest people, they have to check everyone who comes in the gate as the park is not cleared between the end of the operating day and the start of FearFest (they just stop letting people ride without wristbands).

Who vaguely remembers stepped-up security for FearFest last year, but may be remembering wrong...
There have always been metal detectors at Elitch Gardens.

They have not always had them. They installed them either in 97 or 98. In fact, they had to go before the Gurnee board for approval and I heard it wasnt easy to get it passed.

Hey, coastersrz.  I was there today too.  They didn't even scan me with the wands.  I had to show the security guard that I only had a digital camera.

Same here when I went to SFNE and Great Escape on Sept 29 & 30. SFNE had metal detectors and wands. Great Escape just had wands. Mostly they just checked my digital camera bag.

Does the term "Feel Good Security" mean anything to you?

I highly doubt the setup at PKI right now is very effective.  It just looks impressive, and they're probably isn't much contraband going in anyway.

For example: When I walked in the Re-Admission gate, there was a lane into the park that totally bypassed the security checkpoint.

For the record, I personally was not searched or wanded, but others were.  Must have to fir the profile of a terrorist or criminal.

I went to PKI's fearfest last night, they had the security stands set up but all they said was "Have your purses checked at the tables" and thats all. They didn't do anything to people who didn't have purses. Kind of odd.
