The name is in quotes because don't you all think this coaster should be renamed "Twin Out-n-Backs"? After about 5 trips to PKI this year, and about 20 rides on this coaster, it has raced maybe twice. The ride ops at the controls do nothing but sit there and press the button, with an empty look on their face. Must be fun for them lol.
This ride does not have lines where capacity is an issue, escpecially with 4 trains running all the time. How much effort from the ride ops would it take to actually race these trains? More than half the fun of this medium size coaster or any racing coaster is the race, you will hear cheers from the winning train when there is a race........Cheering people mean people having fun......
They could take a HUGE lesson from Cedar point. The ride ops there make a great effort to race the trains. There were even times when one train started to dispatch, and they held it so they could race! The racing makes Gemini one of the most fun rides at the Point.
This goes for any park with racing coasters that just let them run independently. They are taking away a huge part of the ride in doing that.
It seems like all Paramount parks have been doing this. However, this year at Carowinds it seems like Thunder Road has raced more than in the past. Maybe its just coincedence though.

Last year the Racer at PKI had been racing all summer long. It looks like they do it at certain times of the year.

When I was at PKI last summer The Racer was racing.
I agree that the Racer rarely races, but of my 10 or so lifetime trips to Cedar Point, I have *never* raced another train on Gemini.
I saw that out of all the times I've been on The Racer, it has raced about 60% of the time. They try to do it mostly of weekends in the Summer, but they just try to keep them moving on the weekdays. I wished it raced more but it is a fun ride nonetheless.I've not seen Gemini race, but once on all of my 6 or so trips. And I just saw it once, not got a ride with it racing. I've gotten about 20 rides on the thing which is much easier and usually has a much shorter line than Racer.

Everything above was my opinion. If you disagree, please respond in an intelligent fashion. But before you post,I warn you that some people say I'm just too smart to understand. Please take that into consideration.
I went in april, and got 5 rides all racing, ive never seen it not racing.
This year they arent racing them a lot. But it sorta is hard to see over the people in the que when you are trying to time the cars right. If they had a chance, they probabily would have redesigned it so you leave out the que and enter out the exit. That way, they could see to race them. But sometimes the view is obstructed.
Dont get me wrong i love racing on it, but sometimes it cant be done

They always do a great job racing. I have never been there when they were not, and I am sure they may miss it once in a while, but think about how people do not fit or want out when the restraints are locked you can't leave one side waiting for the other; that would be dumb.

I've ridden it quite a few times this year and out of approx 10 rides the last two were the only two rides that weren't racing. These rides were on May 20th, Sunday. Every time before the 20th we raced. I don't know what the problem is, but I hope they fix it.
Gemini usually only races during mid-day, and it seems they usually open a side late, and close a side early.
When I went there last summer the two coasters weren't racing. It doesn't matter though because one coaster runs backwards and its difficult to see who won anyways.
Went to PKI this year Racer was Racing.
Went to CP, early Cmania morning saw Gemini not racing.
Go Figure!
lata,
the hostyl one
Went to PKI last year, and it wasn't racing in the slightest, but out of the 12 or so times I've been to CP Gemini has raced every day. I just love the hand-slapping in the turns. I guess it's just the day you go...
