Originally, we had planned to go to PKI on Sunday. However, I thought that crowd-wise, it would be better to do PKI on Monday and SFKK on Sunday so that's what we did. We got to the park at about 12:30pm and notice there are an awful lot of cars in the lot. It seems that there was a General Mills company event at the park that day. In the long run, it didn't really matter as no line was longer than 1:15 (SOB) and most were around 20-30 min. We caught a real break early. As we went to the ticket booths, I noticed a window with no line (sweet!). I go up to the guy working and give him my $7 off coupon from Kroger's (thank to whoever suggested that). He looks at the coupon and says "I can give you a better discount than that" and proceeds to give up the group rate discount of $19.99 a ticket (BOUNS!). So for less than the price of three tickets, I got tickets for the four of us. Again, using the -3, +5 0=slight pos scale, which is semi-standard on this list:

I don't really have anything bad to say about the park. The ops kept the trains moving. They were quick to inform patrons about any malfunctions. The park was exceptionally clean (I'm talking CP clean). And there was tons of stuff to do. What I'm about to say may piss some people off, but even though CP has a larger number of coasters, I think that PKI has the better collection of coasters, at least of my tastes (I'm not trying to start a PKI/CP debate, but I will entertain one). Also, people say Holiday World has the best 1-2 woodie punch. I'm not disagreeing as I have never been to HW, but the SOB/Beast combo ain't no joke. The only knocks that I can give are things (food/souvenirs) seemed to be a bit pricey. Also, I was a bit upset because they closed SOB early (circa 8pm) to the GP for a special "Season's Passholder's Event". About 5 min later, SOB had a malfunction (here we go…). We were going to wait it out, but when we saw the mechanic on the transfer track looking at on of the trains, we decided to go elsewhere and return later. Since we were in the area, and kept seeing it from the SOB line we decided to ride:
Top Gun Arrow Suspended +3.5:
Only my second suspended coaster (Draggin Iron being the other). This was really fun, and really short. There were some good swings. Problem was, the best swing (in the first car) was the one right before you hit the breaks. Seems like the ride wants to do more for you, but was cut down early in life. Also, as we were sitting in the break run, they had a problem with dispatching the other train. Mom, wonders is there a park wide problem, first SOB now TG all within like 15-20 min. The ops were quick to communicate to us that there was going to be a slight delay. The delay was really slight, like a min or two and then we made the long journey to the other side of the park to encounter:

Okay, I understand why this coaster is rated so high. It's not because of airtime, because airtime is limited on this monster. It's because of intimidation. I need not describe the layout to you, as many of you know it better than I could ever explain. I do want to say that I didn't know that the second lift hill was a massive as the first. I also think this is what Arrow should have had in mind when making a runaway mine train. The Beast is great at capturing that out of control feeling. I actually felt like we accelerated throughout the "Beast's Lair" helix. Additionally, I got a good picture from the second lift that shows how well the ride is hidden. I really hope it come out (cheap @$$ camera).

I've been on a few of these and it always surprises me with the air off that first drop from such a little ride. I guess bigger really doesn't mean better. This one however, gets a couple of tenths shaved off because of the awful paint job. If it were themed to Scooby-Doo like the one at Carowinds, purple would be okay. But for the Beastie, I liked the yellow paint job better.

Same ride as Two Face (SFA) same rating. Interesting side note, there appear to be brakes on the tower side of the vertical loop. Has anyone noticed these before or know why they are there?
At this time it was almost 8 o'clock. While my parents were still eating earlier, I went to the SOB line to find out when it would close to the GP. The attendant said the passholder's event was from 9-12, so I figured they would close the line around 8pm. My father and I wanted to get in another SOB ride so we got back in line. Contrary to previous reports, KC was running two trains, though the loading process still wasn't what you would call swift. Most of this was due to people trying to 'sit' on the ride and not 'stand'. Each time this would happen, the ops would have to reset that row. Looking at KC now, with SOB as a backdrop, this looks like a baby ride. However, it still packs a mean little left hook. Even though the "trick-track" didn't do much for me (except I thought we might hit a tree), having "standing air" on a stand-up is a very unique experience. Well I also went to PKI on Monday and the park was looking great. SOB was suprisingly open for 3/4 of the time I was there. I was very suprised again to see them running two trains. I've been on SOB 4 times and the ride on Monday was by far one of the funnest rides I've ever encountered on a ride! The back seat ride is unbelievable! Oh and by the way I also have a new favorite roller coaster over - passing Millennium Force. I'm glad 2Hostyl you had a great day PKI. I know I did.

DOWN WITH TRIM BRAKES!
pki has a great atmosphere and good prices. there are many food stands. imo, i think they really need a good anchor coaster(steel). maybe a hyper. one that is smooth. that is one thing i noticed: pki doesnt have one smooth coaster.i wouldnt mind visiting again next season, but i would only go once every summer for a whole day.

A large steel coaster would put this park over the top!
The brakes on the tower side of the loop on Face Off are a safety feature. If you watch them, you see they only close after the train has gone through the loop, then reopen just before the train drops from the tower for the return trip. If for some reason the train were to drop from the tower, prior to getting to the top, the brakes would prevent it from entering the loop at too low a speed to make the trip over.
At least that is how I saw them working.

coastedad: yup that is the way that I saw them cycling. It was just suprising to me because I never noticed them on two-face (SFA). But then again, that queue line never gets near that part of the ride.
