PKI Drop Zone loading

Out of curiosity, do you have to stand on a number for the seat you are assigned to or do they just let the 30+ people go to any seat they want? I always wondered that!

I'm so looking forward to Drop Zone @ PKD!

When I went to PKI in Oct they just give you a number and you go to that number

The Jokes on You!! Ha Ha

It would suck if they just let people into the ride with no organization. However, if they let a single file line into the ride (like on Top Spins), making the line of people go as far down as possible, all the way to a certaint point, and then filling up the seats in the same order as the queue was in, that way could work, it would basically be the same thing as numbers though. People are so reluctant to sit right next to others though, that other option might not work.

You are assigned a number starting with 3 then up to 40, than 1 and 2 are assigned, it is asked that for quick loading you go to the assigned number. When you go to the wrong number it splits up groups who want to sit by each other.

Acrophobia uses the *random seating* method, it usually slows down the loading process by about a minute each turn while riders try desperately to leave an open seat between their group and other groups...disastrous! Assigning seat numbers like at PKD definitely improves the capacity alot! Not to mention the additional height MORE than makes up for the tilting seats IMO...can't wait to try out the *upgrade* at PKD next year....:)

Very good well-being lark this....ARN&R...http://absolutelyreliable.com/

Last time I went they gave you a # as you went on and thats where you sat.
Rollergator, are you referring to the height of PKD's Drop Zone as the *upgrade*? I also heard from a few people here that the braking will actually start about 75ft. down further than PKI's. Is this true?
In 2001 I worked at Acrophobia when it opened and I tried desperately to get SOMEONE to mandate assigned seating for loading. No one listened, I guess it's a pipe dream. I hate seeing everyone go willy-nilly when they open the gates.

Is that a Q-bot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Which begs the question, "Why do they start at 3?" Why not start at #1 and work your way around?

Thought #1 - are 1 and 2 reserved for a wheelchair rider and their companion?

Or are 1 and 2 special big boy seats, in which case why am I not aware of them?

Or did the people numbering the seats make a mistake and started numbering in the wrong place?

FWIW: At the MN State Fair on the Fabbri MegaDrop they led the group around the tower in an orderly line filling in all the seats.

Seats ! and 2 are "reserved" for those guest in wheelchairs, and when they isn't any guest with wheelchairs those seats are than filled. All 40 seats are identical.

Coreo81...yes, it IS true about the braking....not sure where PKI's starts braking, but PKD's will accelerate to 72 and hit the brakes at *IIRC* a hair-raising 33' (?) from the ground. Given the tower height, maybe one of our many *phyicians* could check those stats....(economics is a *soft science*, lol)...;). Considering the BREEZE that blows from around PKI's, this should be interesting watching oncoming riders try to stand up when the previous *ring of riders* hits those brakes....ROFL...

GP, thanks for trying...

Ok rollergator, that sounds a bit off the wall! 33' from the ground? How could it slow down that fast? Where did you get this info from anyway? You aren't the first person i've heard it from...This is really interesting.

Are there still seats on PKI's Drop Zone that they don't use? Like one here and one there, for a total of three? I haven't riden it at all this year but I remember they were closed last year. Darn lightning and computers.

Wood Rules!

The Acrophobia situation is ridiculous. I had to literally shove people just to make sure that I got to ride next to my wife. IIRC, there are ride ops standing right by the gates-why couldn't they assign seats?

Ok...I have to ask. What does IIRC mean?

Coreo81, I got to see the actual press release (wish I was able to get a copy). Dan Burns at PKD's GR showed me the release when I asked about the new drop ride....while he was waiting (and waiting) for PKI to retrieve Jill's passholder info. Even got her in free without having to replace her season pass! We now have a shrine to Dan Burns in the coaster room...j/k, but he was a *fantastic* employee! Pretty sure 33' was what it said....

MWB, no idea, but don't blame GP....;)

SFNE Freak....If I recall correctly....I *usually* do, since gators have (almost) as good a memory as elephants...;)

Yeah, I couldn't imagine how slow it would be without assigned seating!! Drop Zone normally has a 1 - 2hr line, too!

oh cool! Thanks for the info rollergator :)
