PKI and SFWoA on a weekend in May?

Hi.  We are heading up to Cedar Point the first week they are open in May because we have wanted to go there for a long time and we have read that the lines are at the shortest then.  We are thinking about stopping at PKI and SFWoA on the way.  We have free tickets for any Six Flags park, so we would only have to pay for PKI.  However, because those parks are only open on weekends at that time, we would have to go on a Saturday and Sunday.  We were thinking of hitting PKI on Saturday, May 11th and SFWoA on Sunday, May 12th (Mother's Day).  Would going to those parks on those days be worth it, or should we just skip it because of the huge crowds?  Will we spend the entire day waiting in lines?  I don't care about getting to do everything in both parks.  We really just want to hit the main higlights of each, but I really don't want to wait in lines forever and ever.  What do you think we should do?  We probably won't be getting back up that way for a long time.  We are going to begin trying to start a family in the fall, and itf that works out, we won't be taking off to ride any roller coasters for a while!
I think you should go to PKI on May 11th cuase that's exactly when I'm goin man.  Can't miss out on TR:TR!

I will be there on the 11th too. Looks like it'll be busy.

Actually, TR is one of the rides I'm really not interested in.  (Please don't shoot me).  I'm not a fan of the game or the movie at all.  Do you think that all the hype about that might make the lines for the other rides a little shorter?
GEM - Don't judge the ride by the movie.  I'm not a Batman (movie, show, cartoon, comic) fan at all, but I *really* enjoy the Batman rides.
LOL, I will always remember what they called the"BULL RUN" at CP to MF, that was great.  I'm guessing it'll be the same but for TR:TR but you never know.  Hopfully there won't be too many people there.  Music in the Parks is going on May 11th.  My Band Director booked us to play real early so we'll get there when the park opens this time unlike last year.  I'm guessing PKI will be a bit more packed on the 11th though just because of the extra people that will be attending music in the parks.  I'd say an extra 500 judging from last years turn out.
-----------------
That's true, I guess.  I couldn't care less about Batman or Superman, but I like those rides.  I guess I just got it stuck in my mind somehow that TR was going to be something similar to Spiderman at IOA or Men In Black at Universal, neither of which I enjoy much.  (Please don't shoot me for that either.)
Anyway, does anybody else have any opinions on how horrible the crowds and lines will be on those days?  We really are sort of up-in-the-air about whether or not we should try it.  Thanks!

Nick,

Remember, PKI ropes off certain areas in the park at opening, and usually escorts people back to popular attractions to prevent any mass running.

As far as going to PKI on a Saturday, be prepared for it to be crowded.. Saturday is easily the most popular day to attend the park from what I can tell.  I would suggest getting there at gate opening to make your way back to the rope drop near the lake in the back. That way, you are sure to get on the ride as soon as possible. There is a way to be the first in line for TR, but you have to be a ACE member, or with a ACE member for that . =:^)

Why not go to CP on June 7th for CoasterMania, SFWOA on the 8th, and PKI on the 10th for coasterbuzz con?

Does CCI know how to make a bad coaster?
I wish we could, but I am directing a play that starts nightly rehearsal on June 3rd, so we have to be back home by then.  Thanks for all the info.  I am hoping that a Saturday in May won't be quite as crowded as a Saturday later on in the summer.  What do you all think about crowds at SFWoA on Mother's Day?
This is wierd...I just planned the same trip and was going to post for comments on it... I am from the Detroit area and this is the trip I planned. .

Saturday May 4, ... SFWoA, Park open 10 - 10

Sunday May 5, Opening day, CP, park open 10 - 8

Monday May 6, PKI, (edited) NOTE: PKI is closed this day... The calendar shows the park as open, but the calendar is one day off. Therefor PKI is open sat and Sun, not Sun and Mon as it shows.

Well, there goes my 3 day park plans (end edit)

Any ideas on how to make this trip any better? Any comments would be appreciated

Double check your dates, James K.  Paramount`s Kings Island`s opening day is on April 5th this year, a Friday after good Friday (on my spring break). Also, PKI is not open Monday May 6th.  Also, I highly doubt that Cedar Point`s opening day is on a Sunday as opening weekends generally include two days.

thanks coastersrz and FOF, I will check into that...

Okay, here is what I found... Indead PKI's calendar is off by one day, therefore it is not open on Monday, May 6th. This is the first day listed at the calendar I was looking at, it may not be opening day though.

Cedar Point's first open day to the public is Sunday May 5 (according to cedarpoint.com)

And SFWoA opening day may be earlier, but the first day I see the park open is May 4th.

Thanks again for the info, that would not have been cool if the parks had been closed..

Gem, I was at SFWoA last year on Mother's Day and it wasnt "too" busy. X-Flight was NOT open yet. Batman:Knight Flight had about a 20min wait (we did wait for the very front and i would HIGHLY suggest you do the same. No coaster takes advantage of front seating better than B:KF). Serial Thriller had an awefulty slow moving line w/ a 45min wait, but everything else was under 10min. Superman:UE was pretty much a walk-on  (and a GREAT ride). Get Serial Thriller out of the way early (poor capacity), then B:KF (please wait for the front). Dont really know what to expect for X-Flight, so cant give any advise on that.

Saturday, May 4 is usually reserved when a large company buys out CP for the day (like last year it was Longaberger Basket Company). That's why the actual opening day for the public is a Sunday.

SFWoA shouldn't be too bad for it being so early in the season. Last year's opening day had a decent crowd but not long waits on any of the rides. X Flight is still the newest attraction so I'll guess many people will run to that first. If X Flight is open, try and get to that coaster first.

Enjoy your visit.

Sean F.

Your right, darn those yellow ropes!

As for SFWoA, I've never been there so I really couldn't tell you much except maybe if SFWoA really isn't busy a lot of the time, visit SFWoA on Sat. and maybe PKI wont be as packed on Sun. due to the fact, Music in the Parks for PKI is on Sat.  I'm not sure if you could or would even try to call the parks relations asking for some advice?

What do you mean PKI`s online calendar is off by a day ?  April 5th (opening night) is a Friday and PKI is open that weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Every weekend in April and May is acuurate and falls on the actual dates.
