PKD TR: 7/31/05

Associated parks:
None

Time Arrived: 10:40 a.m. Time Departure: 8:40 p.m.

Weather: Sunny - Cloudy

Crowds: Moderate, well its a Sunday (brought 4 friends with me)

Imma make this short as possible. Rides that have long descriptions are ones I've never been on.

Tomb Raider: Firefall

The ride starts off with a creepy creeking sound, and the platform dropping. The ride then starts to move a little, and moves up to its highest point. The car stops swaying, we move head first towards the ground, and soon we are totally upside down! This is a great feeling. The rest of the ride is quite amazing, as it flips upside down 7 times, all the while with water spraying towards our faces, mist covering the ride area, and flames shooting out of a broken statue head. It's cool because you can feel all these effects during the ride.

Pros: Great theming, great effects, great ride program

Cons: Restraints hurt a bit, but not as bad as Iron Eagle, can't see fire as much if you sit on the back side (see waterfall from the eye).

Rating: 9/10

Flight of Fear

It's funny as I was getting off the ride, people were saying Joker's Jinx is better. The MCBR ruins the ride.

Pros: Great launch, intense half b4 MCBR, great theming, good slow corkscrew.

Cons: Rough few spots and slooow after MCBR.

Rating: 7/10

Drop Zone Stunt Tower

As soon as I approached this ride, my stomach was at my throat. I went to the bathroom and so did my friends. We got back in line and seen some people's emotions after getting off the ride. It was funny. A few little kids and some grown ups were crying when the ride ended. Well it's my turn; we pulled down the restraints. Not very tall looking up, but as soon as get up there, it took my breath away. 123 drop, WOAH!!! For a good 6 seconds. Ride over. My favorite flat at PKD!

Pros: High capacity and excellent overall ride.

Cons: Doesn't spin while ascending in the air.

Rating: 10/10

Hypersonic: XLC

This is the most extreme launch coaster that I've ever been on. Not worth standing in line for a very short ride. I stood in line for about 2hrs.

Pros: Great launch and airtime.

Cons: Low capacity, very short ride, very loud brakes at the end (sounds like a car crashing).

Rating Launch: 10/10; Rating Ride: 4/10

Grizzly

This ride is the parks best wooden coaster. It's located in the woods, thats what makes it better. It's also running better since it was under rehab.

Pros: Great airtime, great tunnel effect, coaster in a wooded area.

Cons: Slowed down on the 2nd hill (about to stall)

Rating: 8/10

Rebel Yell

sdrawkcaB and Forwards

Pros: Great ride, good airtime, and tunnel.

Cons: Stacking (sitting at the brakerun for a while)

Rating: 7/10

Hurler

I word

ROUGH
!!!! And I thought Roar was, but Hurler is 10 times worse. Think of the train being a cell phone. As soon as the first drop, the cell phone vibrates throughout the whole ride. Painfull eh? Yup that's how Hurler was.

Pros: Ok theming, good view of park, and some airtime.

Cons: Terrible queue and bad layout.

Rating: 3/10

Anaconda

Pros: Great tunnel effect and great ride over water.

Cons: Head banging and rough.

Overall 7/10

Volcano: The Blast Coaster

Stood in line for about 2hrs. I still like S:ROS over this ride (most people agree)

Pros: Great launch, great theming, great airtime on inversions.

Cons: Short ride, slow dispatch times, low capacity.

Rating: 8.5/10

Overall Park Rating: 7.5/10

Most of their rides were down in the morning, which we had to convert going from ride to ride. The park was clean (themed in some areas) and employees were nice and was doing their job. Good variety of food (Starbucks was a good addition). Park was very bland. Not enough water rides in the main park. If you want to get wet then go the waterpark, because you will waste your time in the main park.

Most of their good rides were very short, which my friends and I kinda complained about, but we got over it real quick. Overall, my friends and I had fun.

I don't know ALL the Facts!!!!!!
I agree with your assesment on TR:FF especially the restraints those things hurt.

Anaconda...err ouchaconda was a rough ride for me this year because the MCBR was not as tight, dare I say it but I actually preffered shockwave over anaconda on this years trip & grizzly was running ohh so sweet when I rode it but my only complaint was no night rides cuz we left the park at 8 pm :( .

I have a Gold Season Pass that lets me into the park 10 minutes earlier to be first in line for one ride. My last trip to PKD, I chose Flight of Fear (FoF). I was the only person riding the ride. No screeching teenage girls, just a almost completely dark ride with lots of clanging and sound effects. A totally different experience. My suggestion is try this ride first one time.

A day at the park is what you make it!

Im going for a 2 day visit next week and I think I'll try that.
I rode Flight of Fear first thing in the morning with just my friend and I on the train. The colored lights and the soundtrack weren't on yet. It was pitch black! I was told that maintenance forgot to turn the effects back on. That was a ride I'll never forget ;-)

Luck.... Neither more I can't even stand that urking buzzing sound in the station. Seems like the ride ops don't like it either. They all had on ear plugs.

I don't know ALL the Facts!!!!!!
The ear plugs are probably required under OSHA guidelines. There are rules as to how long a persons ears can be exposed to a certain decibel level and for how long before hearing loss sets in. It gets quite loud in the station during some of the soundtrack (for lack of a better word). The last thing you want is for the workers to be losing their hearing due to their jobs.
It may have something to do with the soundtrack, but more than likely the LIM launch indoors is over the allowable decible limit, and I'd figure that is the reason for the ear plugs.
