Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

This new movie starring Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush & Orlando Bloom is the first ever to be based on a theme park ride. This is noted in its IMDb trivia section; http://us.imdb.com/Trivia?0325980 Click on 'main details' for more info.

How is that for a change compared to rides based on movies? Think B:TR and many more.

How soon we all forget about The Country Bears movie from 2002
Not a ride, Phil. Country Bears was/is a show.
Wonder if we'll ever see "Top Thrill Dragster: The Movie." ;)
Disney's first PG-13 movie.....I'm there.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a (tv) movie too (Disney ride too)? Pirates movies have never been a huge success in the past (one of the biggest bombs in history was Cutthroat Island), but maybe Disney magic along with the great cast will get people into theatres. Not that Disney is hurting much in the film department with another runaway Pixar hit still in theatres, but Treasure Planet sunk quickly last Fall. The Haunted Mansion (based on the Disney ride) is coming soon as well. Hopefully Murphey doesn't blow it again.

Ha ha ha!!!!! Oh man, I KNEW there was a reason I liked this list... :)

Yeah, Danny, that Tower of Terror movie was made for TV and sucked. But, it's easily forgotten since it starred Steve Guttenberg. The only redeeming quality of the entire thing was the beginning with the dancing and the Sing Sing Sing and the fourties and oh, it hurts me.

PotC actually looks like a fairly entertaining film. Still, I'm looking forward to The Haunted Mansion far, far more.

I can't have too much faith in those quality of these movies, though, because they're all being written by salaried screenwriters who're paid to sit around all day and think of movies based on theme park attractions.

What do I Listen-To?

Well I could come up with a GREAT script based on a theme park ride...but Disney would never in their right mind make it. ;)

Since Haunted Mansion is already on its way, I can't list that. I will however throw out the 2 hour long, hypnotizing experience that can be discovered in "It's a Small World: The College Years" which will be shown in the world's first boat-equipped theatre.

it aint the size of the arrow, its what you do with the bow

I'm curious...

In the movie, does each major scene start with the camera crashing through a set of double doors? :)

(it would be a really cool 'in joke', wouldn't it?)

--Dave Althoff, Jr.

No, but each scene will end with people crashing through the double doors at the back of the theatre! ;)

I regret to inform you that Top Thrill Signature is not currently in operation due to mechanical problems.
(inaudible whispers).. WHAT? I might have to keep this signature until NEXT YEAR?!?!

actually, Dave, there are a bunch of "in jokes" pertaining to the ride...dont want to spoil anything for anyone though...

but i like the crashing through the doors thing...very funny.

cant wait for this movie...

...But I hear the theater owners drew the line at requesting that people remain seated until the end of the film. Their popcorn sales couldn't handle it.

Dude, it sounds awful. Murphy accidentley finds himself trapped in a mansion full of ghouls and ghosts, and while there, learns the meaning of life.

I'm not kidding. That's the plot.

OK Dave, that was just MEAN...

either way, movies based on rides, rides based on movies...could be a win/win situation depending on your point of view...
