Physics Story

I'm in high school and I take a physics class.  I just thought I'd share this with everybody.  The unit we are doing now has to do velocities in different directions.  We talk about horizontal velocities and vertical velocities.  Whenever my teacher says vertical velocity I think of the Intamin Impulse.  I can't help but smile a little bit.  Now I can't wait to ride one of them.

Ah. Right now you're studying vectors, and how to resolve same. Once you can split an initial velocity vector into its component parts, you're well on your way. The next thing you'll probably cover is continuous acceleration in one dimension...and if you combine that one-dimensional acceleration (gravity) with vector splitting, you get ballistics.
And if you know how to work out ballistics, you can predict where the track has to go to generate weightless hill tops. And if you can do that, you can predict where to deviate from that ballistic path to generate airtime!

I remember doing that in high school. Physics was my favorite subject. My teacher always worked coasters into the problems. :)

Im studing Projectile Motion, and all I think about is Nitro's drop and how it's curve downward resembles Vertical velocity acceleration. He said we would study the LIMs on The Chiller cause in may we have a class trip to Great Adventure. Can't wait to ride the new SlingShot.

I remember physics...

The first year I took because I had to.. the second year I took because I failed the first time.. but I understand it so much better now :)

Ugh... I'm in Physics right now and I hate it!

When we work problems with 2 velocities my teacher always refers to the second velocity as V2... always makes me smile :)

Other that that, we've only simply talked a bit about roller coasters. Hopefully we'll talk a lot more about them next semester!

My AP physics teacher is clueless...When we do a problem about a roller coaster it is always arbitrary, and when we asked us about going to SFOG for Physics day he just told us its a marketing gimmick to make money...so untrue.  We finished all the mechanical and kinetic stuff, the stuff dealing mostly with roller coaster physics, and now we do the electrical/magnetic physics, which also has a surprisingly large number of uses in the theme park world.

My class has discussed about going to Canobie Lake Park.  Past classes have done it.  He said that we would have to fill out a huge booklet about all the motions in the park and stuff.  None of the class wanted to do that.

Me being the class clown said, "I would rather go to Six Flags New England.  I could whip out my calculator on the first drop while all of you are holding on for your life."

My Physics teacher is set on going to Cedar Point for Physics Day this year...and we live 3 hours away. He likes them too...:)

-------------
Mayday - Memorial Day Weekend - Nonpoint, Nickelback, Oleander, Staind
Ozzfest - June 8 - Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Black Sabbath
Awake Tour- June 15 - Darwin's Waiting Room, Puddle of Mudd, Deftones, Godsmack

im taking a class like physics but it's for 8th grade (we use 10th grade books) were going to CP.  right now were just talking about motion, but a formula was written velocity squared or V2 which is funny (a tad)

I heard the physics day at Canobie and SFNE is not very educational. I tried to persuade my old physics teacher to take a class to one of the physic days but he said that the activities were not suitable for the type of class we were taking. It was a nice way of saying that our class was too sophisticated for the day. even if it was, i still would have loved another visit to SFNE or Canobie.
