Petition against Ed Markey's Strange Ideas

Representative Ed Markey has apprently made enough people mad that there is now an online petition against his plans for G force limitations.

I ask that you all sign in hopes that he comes to his senses and doesn't try and push his g force limitations any further.

Online petitions will never work. There will always be people who make it look very un-serious. For example, I only had to scroll down about 10 names before I found, "know your role and shut your mouth Edward J. Ass-Monkey." The best thing to do, as Jeff said, is to write your local Congressman and tell them exactly what is going on.

Ha, you'll see. I am sending this to my local congressman and to many others. It will goto Ed, it will goto the local newspaper where Ed lives. Once people in his district start hearing about it (his voters) then he might actually think. Also, when other congressman read it, they will be more likely to not approve his bill. So sign it, I plan to do alot with it.

A sampling of some real hard hitting comments from that petition:

"pull the rod out of your arse, man"

one comment was simply a shameless plug for a website

"Who does he think he is (God)!"

"It's STUPID and it SUCKS!"

"zoom...zoom...zoom!"

"He never has any facts strait"

Wow, IOA pics! You're right, Markey will probably resign when faced with those hard-hitting arguments.

Wow Big Boy, i detect a large amount of sarcasm! I can't help what people write!

And I must apologise for my efforts to stop Markey, cause you obviously think its a mistake - Sarcasm

Lol i agree big boy.hehehehehe

You have seemed to leave the fact out that for every comment like your examples, there are tons more "well thought out" comments. So, if you don't like what I am trying to do, just think of it this way:

If i succeed, what I did helped the coaster community.

If i fail, at least I tried and you didn't

If you put the comments that people put on there aside you would notice that it does show support against his ideas. Although they may all look like idiots for writing such stupid comments, they are still voting idiots (at least most of them are)

You're right about the sarcasm. And, you're right, there are many very good comments on that petition. But, IMO, the few idiotic comments ruin the credibility of the entire petition. As someone said in another thread, Markey has made up his mind. A thousand people signing an electronic petition, most of which don't live in his district and a good portion that aren't even eligible voters, is never going to sway his opinion. Even if 5000 people sign that petition, that is only .00002% of the population of the US speaking out against it. Markey can scare the hell out 100x that many people with his fuzzy statistics and get them to support it. Do I like what he's doing? No way. Am I worried about this legislation ever passing? Nope. Its been around for awhile and its never really had much of a chance. And that probably won't change unless the political makeup of Congress changes a lot. I just don't think this is worth getting too worked up over. But, if you're that passionate about it, I can respect that and I'll even sign the petition. Good luck.

The petitions do work to an extent, remember how we petitioned against SF over fastlane and got results? now this however will be a bit more of a challenge because this time we're dealing with politicians and not with a business establishment over how that business is run but maybe, just maybe if we get enough people behind us we can get rid of Markey's nonsense over parks & coaster safety once and for all.
The fast lane petition was not well enought organized. The trick is what you do with the signatures. You can't just hope that Ed will find it, you have to send it to people. Thats why I am sending it to tons of other congressman and newspapers.

Petitions are meaningless high school nonsense that don't do anything, especially with stupid ass comments like those found above. If you want something done you go through the right channels (your own reps, the press, etc.). Petitions are something you start to get your high school principal put a water fountain between the cafeteria and the library, not make a US congressman go away.
