PETA upset over cockroach eating at Six Flags Great America promo

Posted | Contributed by Chitown

One man's publicity stunt is apparently another man's outrage, as the activist group People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is calling on Six Flags Great America to cancel a live cockroach-eating contest planned for next month's Fright Fest. Those taking and successfully executing the challenge will be given four Fast Lane passes, which allow entry to the front of the line at any ride in the park. The eating will take place in the Southwest Territory's Mission Stage on a first-come, first-served basis.

Someone needs to find PETA a new hobby...

I'll tell ya this though, I have an objection to the contest that has nothing to do with animal (insect) rights and EVERYTHING to do with "YEACCHHHH!!!!!" :D

I think Cedar Point should have a contest to see how many bugs you can eat while riding MF. ;)
Larry - That'll work too. Can't have wild boar chops without some gravy.
This took a lot longer to happen than I expected.
I remember hearing about this last week, and my first though matched many of yours, "Where's PETA?" Knew they couldn't resist an opportunity like this one.

Lol Jan, the couple of times that's happened to me on MF the bugs hit everywhere but my mouth.

At a store in Cincinnati called Jungle Jim's they sell/sold a t-shirt that said, "PETA...People for Eating Tasty Animals". I need to get one of those.

I wonder if they've protested Fear Factor Live @ Universal yet? I remember talk that they were going after the TV show several years ago, but never heard anything else about it.*** This post was edited by Floorless Fan 9/25/2006 7:40:23 PM ***

PETA has protested at the Iowa State Fair every year for as long as I can remember. People just look at them and laugh.

I have a hard time thinking of a cockroach as an animal. Especially since I spent nearly 5 years doing apartment pest control.

How many groups has Six Flags upset this season anyway?

ACLU
PETA

Any others?

GP ;)

Why are they just targeting SFGAm? Other SF parks are doing the same thing.

^^LOL!

Don't forget CB. ;)

Ready to play Pacman "anti-PETA" style?

To funny.

Tell me Six Flags is not loving all this publicity. They don't even have to advertise for Fright Fest this year. PETA is doing it for them. This was even brought on ESPN radio this morning, which is a national show...tons of exposure. The response from the Six Flags Great America rep was great, something along the lines of how nutritious and how high in protein these roaches are.
^^^^ Don't forget Six Flags Investors. (Whaddaya mean it dropped 24% in one day?)

^ LOL, wasn't that the day that Shapiro admitted the job might have been QUITE a bit bigger than he and Snyder originally anticipated... ;)

"We didn't realize that the old regime had left the fields fallow"...

I'm just happy I only had a couple hundred shares...sometimes it IS good to not have money.. :)

They piss me off they made Conneaut Lake Park cancel their plans for a magic show involving panthers in 2004.
PETA has always been a pain in the ass (not just with Six Flags) and I have seen one of their protests and I just know they're gonna do something that'll make complete jackasses out of themselves so they can save their precious cockroaches.
