Persuasive Speech Sources

I'm going to do a speech arguing that roller coasters are safe for a persuasive speech for my Introduction to Communication class. I'm considering discussing both the design and maintenance of coasters in my speech. Does anyone have any ideas where I could get sources? I need at least eight, with at least four being non-Internet sources. I'm considering writing to some manufacturers and parks to get some information.

The news and editorial sections of this web site can give you starting places to look. In addition to the web sources, you can also find references and in some cases reprints of paper resources. For example, you can find links to a recent aritcle published in a very scholarly journal of neurology. You can find a like to the 130 pages of safety regulations covering amusement rides in New Jersey. You can also find an official report from the Consumer Product Safety Commission that when you cut out all the BS shows that your chance of going to the emergency room from a ride accident is only one in 25,000 per park visit, and then the injury is almost certain be very minor. It also shows that you chance of dying in a ride accident at a park the last 2 years is one in 300,000,000 which is far less than you chance of being killed during the car trip to the park.

Jim Fisher is right, the news and editorial sections of CB can be VERY helpful. I had to write a persuasive essay on roller coaster safety in my English class last year and I got every last bit of info from this site and it got me an A. This site does have many uses!

What would we all do if roller coasters became non-existent???

See if there's anything related on other industry-related sites, such as IAAPA's site and amuesment related trade journals.

Lifts are for wimps. Real enthusiasts use the power of their minds to make the trains go up the first hill.

The Philedelphia Inquirer had something last week. I did a report on it.

I am a boy.

Would it be possible to do say, a college English paper on the subject? Any other credible sources would really help me. I also need to acknowledge the other side so if any one has any sources of criticism regarding the current trends in how amusement parks handle safety issues would be needed.

Thank you in advance.

Since this is my first post, let me introduce myself. My home park is Dorney Park and I worked as a ride operator on Steel Force there over the summer. I have not been an enthusiast for very long, I think my track record would be less then 20 if I ever got around to recording it!
