Permission to Build Coasters

Since there is a lot of talk about parks that have a hard time getting permission to build coasters, I thought it might be nice to have a topic about it. Post what parks you think (or know) have a hard time getting permission to build coasters.

I will talk about Dorney since it is my homepark. They can't build above 200 feet and they don't want new rides to be extrememly loud. I don't think it's that bad for Dorney to get permission. It justs take a while for them to get the permission. A prime example of this is Talon. check out http://www.alexsplace.com/New-In-2001/Dorney-Park/Dorney-Park-2001-Main.htm and scroll to the bottom where it says Press Releases. They released that they were getting a coaster in 2001 in April of 2000!! I sure hope that is true again this year. Dorney has to be careful (and creative as in the case of sand in the tracks for Talon) when they want to build a new coaster.

SFA has pretty much the same problem as Dorney when it comes to building new rides, they can't build above 200 ft & the rides must be either quiet or located far enough away from the property lines so as not to cause any noise problems.
As far as my knowlege extends, PKD doesnt have any limits, but i could be wrong. The park is located right off the highway, and i dont see too many residents in the area so i dont think noise is problem.

The also already topped 300ft, so i dont think height is an issue either.

My question is...where is the hyper? Would be nice if they get one..

CP has to file foundation building plans with the City of Sandusky and that's it.

SFWoA on the other hand.. They have thier own problems that I think will forever cripple that park.

The village of Gurnee, Ill has a 125ft height limit. If SFGAm wants to exceed this height for a ride, they must get approval from the Gurnee zoning board.

Its pretty much a guarantee that SFGAm will always get approval for the height variance. Massive tax revenue for the village speaks volumes. :)

CoasterDude04, enough with the hyper moaning. Be happy with what you have. My homepark hasn't gotten a major ride since 1999. Then again I'm not complaining, I'm happy with the two good coasters I've got. I guess some people will never be satisfied...

If at first don't succeed, find out if the loser gets anything.

Bell's Amusement Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma, probably has the most problems. The neighbors there don't want all the noise from running the rollercoasters. However, these morons never thought that they would hear much noise when they decided to live next to a fairground. Somehow, sound issues didn't seem to bother them then.

Coasterdude04,quit thinking hyper @ PKD ( at least for now) & start thinking floorless or flyer instead. :)

From what I've seen in photo's I've taken atop Eiffel Tower @ PKD land doesn't seem to be a major problem & there doesn't appear to be any residential property near the park unlike SFA's situation,so when the time is right a hyper or god willing a giga will be proudly gracing PKD's midway in the future.

actually.....

SFA cannot create more than a 50 decible noise, at it's perimeter. There's no specific verbage to say rides cannot be loud. Keep in mind, rules can change! at one point the county said that there can't be anything within 800ft from central avenue, and it cannot be visible from main roadway, the 800ft rule stands, however the visibility rule has been abandoned. The agreement with the county says no developement closer that 50 yards from park borders, and 50% of the land MUST be left un-developed.

Rumors persist about the park moving/ re-building it's waterpark toward the back of the park to appease its complaining neighbor (there's really only one, just like dorney)

never met a coaster I didn't ride (except Junior Geminii) :(

According to friends who live in Gurnee, IL, SF Great America can not build taller than Sky Trek Tower which is about a little more than 300ft. So don't expect a Giga anytime soon.
Yea, SFGAm cannot build above 310ft.(height of SKy Trek tower) and has to get an approval from the zoning board if they want to build something that is above 125ft.

People scare me.

Sky Trek Tower is 310 feet tall? Dang. Riders don't go that high, what's the max height the riders reach?

PS- I bet they tell you in the little spiel at the start, I probably just wasn't paying attention... ;)

Coasterdude....they DO have a hyper! Son of Beast! :)

I wonder if SFA couldn't buy out their complaining neighbor a lot cheaper than moving the waterpark, but then the neighbors that complain about living next to an amusement park, or anything else, are usually the ones that will refuse to sell at any price.

Have you ever noticed how many people buy houses with expressways at the fence line and then expect the tax payers to spend millions on sound barriers? They have my sympathy if the house was there long before the road, but in many cases the house was built long after the noise source.

I think the riders fo to a max height of about 275ft.

Wow. It certainly didn't seem that high! Then again, I don't have the greatest perspective when it comes to height estimation either...

Problems building? Check Marine world. Their height limit is 150 ft. Plus the neighbors complain about the coaster noise, which is why all they are all clumped in the front of the park

Adventura magnífica es el número uno y no lo se olvida!

Hey Jim I highly doubt that SFA can "buy off" their pesky neighbors that easily, after all SF can barely afford to add new rides to half of their parks (including SFA) so where would they get the money to buy off the neighbors from?

I wouldn't mind it if they really did move the waterpark though, all that land can be put to better use by adding a coaster & a ton of flats. :)

If they can't afford to put new rides at half of their parks including SFA, what do you call that new raft ride? :)
