Pepsi Big One: Max? Poland Springs Plunge?

What are you opinions on this whole name branding on rides and in parks? I was shocked to hear that SFDL is renamaing their log flume ride "Poland Springs Plunge"... is it good that they are getting a little extra income out of this, or do you think they should keep these things out? How far do you think this will go?

Well, the funniest ride "sponsorship" I can recall was for Rotting Timber at SFGAdv., sponsored by Stridex I think, definitely some acne medication.  I think we can all agree that THAT is taking the whole thing a bit far...but probably excellent marketing, especialy considering the "grease" on a woodie...well, then again, not THAT woodie, LMAO...;).  It really has become quite insidious, and I've seen it at LOTS of parks, including PKI and SFMM, among more than a few others...DISNEY!

Well at SFWoA the Gold Rusher (Log Flume) was re-named the Deer Park Plunge for a bottled water company and I actually like the new name better. The sign is also very cool and it got a new fountain outside it's entrance too.

Good deal if you ask me.

SFOG had a lot of weird sponsorships over the years.  Delta Airlines sponsored the skybuckets, but oddly enough also sponsored the railroad.  LA Gear (when they were in their heyday) sponsored the Scream Machine, so did Pillsbury.  Not many rides have sponsorship now, but last season saw the renaming of the Log Jamboree to the "Deer Park Plunge."  I hate it.  It will forever be known as Log Flume to loyal parkgoers.
They already did the "Poland Springs Plunge" thing at SFNE last year. I find it to be very pathetic. I think that a company like SF could find different ways to make more money. Almost all the rides except the D.C. Superheroes rides are sponsered by some companies. Ex. Flashback- Pringles, Twister- Bob's Stores.

Show me ONE entertainment industry that does NOT use sponsorships and MAYBE then I'll accept some of you all's complaints.

I don't mind the advertisements along the way...

...as long as they don't integrate it into the freakin' name! I mean, come on... that's just sad. I don't wanna go saying "let's go ride the Coke Coaster, or the Pringles Pirate, or even the "Stridex Scrambler"...

With these sponsors, I still haven't noticed a lick of difference in the park or ride operations vs. the time when they had no sponsors... especially considering they usually make a killing off of the upcharge rides!!

Ok, what's new for 2003?? I can't wait!!...

SFGAm renamed Yankee Clipper (log flume) the Ice Mountain Splash or something like that.  I suppose they just needed the money.  before that all there was were signs in the queue or along the exits that said this ride was brought to you by [incert name here].  although for the 2001 season, they changed the sponsors for a couple rides.  the one that I noticed most was Demon which was formerly brought to us by Stridex.  I loved the little cartoon they had on that sign, but its gone now.  the other thing I noticed was that Iron Wolf was brought to us by AOheLl.  it doesn't bother me too much as long as the product fits the ride (ie. water bottle companies getting log flumes named after them), but I really can't stand the name Pepsi Max Big One.  that's just stupid.

Yea, like DawgByte mentioned, there is a difference between a ride being "presented by Subway" and actually intergrating it into the name.... I would like the opinion on the intergration of the name... I just think its silly....
Kumba is sponsored by Mountain Dew. Viper @ SFGAm is sponsored by RCT. :) To tell you the truth, it doesn't really bother me that much anymore. Would you rather have The Pepsi Max Big One or no Arrow hyper at all? I would take the hyper with a dumb name. Would you rather have the new Batman :DK or an original name on the log flume? These sponsorships help parks add new rides. They may not look or sound nice, but if they help bring in new rides, I'm all for it. Do you really think somebody goes out and buys Stridex pads after they saw it in a line at a park? I highly doubt it, and it makes me wonder what these advertisers are thinking.
Canobie lake has all original rides and original names... some are very creative actually, like Boston Tea Party, great name!

-----------------
Out of the coasters i've ridden here is wat i rank them overall:(ive been to canobie lake and SFNE)
1. S:RoS 2. Yankee Cannonball 3. Riverside Cyclone 4. Canobie Corkscrew 5. Thunderbolt 6. Galaxy 7. Mind Eraser 8. Dragon coaster 9. poison ivy's tangled

What's up with all of the complaining about SF or any other company making profit? Think about it. Where do you think the money goes, into the magical pockets of evilness?

Kingbob wrote this.

I noticed that PKI has some kind of exclusive marketing with Skyline Chili...SFoG has one with Pringles (check the map).

"Enjoy your record-breaking ride on Millennium Force"

I don't really pay attention to the sponser names, but I know how pki is with the skiline chili, but the tv's in the queve line make the line seem shorter, anything that makes line time go shorter makes me very happy
Every time I get in the Skull Mountain station, I see the sign saying how it's sponsored by RollerCoaster Tycoon.  There's also a sign right at the entrance.
