People still looking for Sea World Ohio

...That said, it doesn't help that some atlases and gazeteers still list places such as Sea World Ohio, Americana and Six Flags Ohio on them.

Including, oddly enough, Google Earth. What's THEIR excuse for not updating? :)

I actually looked into Google Earth's "accuracy" and I believe it's from 2000.

2006 - 2009 Cedar Fair Ride Operations
2009 - Walt Disney World Attractions.

Geauga Lake is small and i would imagine that when Sea World existed it was not well known compared to the monsters in Florida, Texas, and California. How it fit in Ohio still blows my mind. It just didnt seem like an attraction for a state that has the weather we experience. When i think whales i think more ocean areas not bfe Ohio. Aurora Ohio isnt exactly a drawing place for families compared to Lake Erie or other places of tourist draw around here. Amusement or marine parks would be better suited for areas with people that know about them. Obviously this doesnt apply to amusement parks, but most people have zoos that allow them to see animals closer to their homes.

So why people ask about it is still beyond me, but the kings island point is also a great point because it shows that major amusement parks are less known even close to a large city.

As far as advertisement, on I-77 we had a geauga lake one and that was it, and relatively nothing for them on tv this year. Kings Island in cleveland is nothing. I mean that wholeheartedly.

What exactly do you mean by GL is small? Cause anytime I'm there it takes me forever to walk from one side to the other (that includes all open areas of the park including WWK) so if you mean small in the sense of the sheer size of the place, then I have to disagree. If you meant small as in not well known and low attendance, then I agree.

I still say those numbers are off because anytime I was there last year after WWK opened, the place seemed much busier than 2004. Even if rides were walk-ons, there seemed to be more life in the park.

With an on-target WWK opening this year, and this statement: "Sea World Ohio is now an all new state of the art Waterpark called Wildwater Kingdom! Where dolphins once swam, now you can!!" (Ok so it's pretty corny but whatever) the park will do well this season. But honestly I really don't care about all of that. I've got cabin fever these darned parks need to open NOW.

For what it's worth, i still get questions from people asking where the Cleveland Aquarium is.

That has been closed for over 20 years now. lol
