Well Adam, you didn't tell us where you live, and whether you are flying to the parks or driving.
This thread does bring up some good points.
Most of the parks start with weekend dates, and with limited rides. I live in South Florida and must Fly everywhere, besides IOA, which is open all year around, even in February, and was a blast at this time. There's a park for you, give em' credit because everything was running. Fly down here right now, weather is great.
Back to my point, I would never fly to a park for opening day because of the problems mentioned above, limited rides, especially with XLC being down. It doesn't matter when the opening day is if you're looking to go on a new ride. The lines will be huge because of the media attention, and then that ride will only run 1 train until they get the bugs worked out.
This year is a real bummer for people who must fly because we don't know when the rides will be ready. The best time to visit amusement parks is in May/June before the kids get out of school, and that's when all the rides are scheduled to be done, but how do you know when they'll be up full time? You don't.
I'm especially frustrated with SFMM. Here they have the most anticipated coaster in the land, X. It will open in the summer time, I'll Guess July. That's the middle of summer, kids are out of school, long lines. August? Forget it, you're asking for trouble. September? Guess what, only weekend hours. The last full week for SFMM is the long Labor Day weekend ending Sept 3rd. Then it's only weekend hours. I'm so bummed by this. I wish the parks would stay open full time the first two weeks in September.
A small rant, but now you know what someone who must fly is thinking. Lucky for me, I've got IOA, SWF, and BGT to drive too.
