Parks by highways a distraction?

LOL you go cp guy!
My girl is right.Parks on a highway can be a distraction. As a former employee of dorney park of 3 years.Hamilton blvd has seen its share of accidents due to the park. There have been many serius accidents. But what can u do,when i see the park i slow down and look too, some times i drive completly around the park just too see whatz going on.e.i hains mill road, dorney park road and hamilton blvd(us 222) same thing with hershey me and my girl always slow down and take a drive down hershey park drive, but a park is a beutiful site, might as well enjoy it
The Dania Beach Hurricane sits almost right on top of I-95 in Ft. Lauderdale/Miama corridor.  That is one of the busiest freeways in the country and I have yet to hear of a story where a crash was caused by someone looking at the coaster.

If it slows people down to 65 mph from 80 mph then I am not sure it is a bad thing.  Is this any different than an airport being right next to a freeway?  There isn't anything more spectacular than seeing a 747 approach over a freeway mere hundreds of feet above passing motorists.

PKD is next to the highway but you can't see a thing, there are too many trees.  All you see is the sign.  It's just about the same with BGW, you get about 5 seconds to look at Apollo's Chariot.

PKI on the other hand is visible for a long time, and I always stare out the window, but I try not to slow down.  I like coming from the south in the winter, because you can see through the trees behind the park and see the last helix on the Beast.

SFKK also looks very cool from the road.  Twisted Sisters is maybe 2 feet from the street.  Same with S:UE at SFWoA.  First time I saw that I was so distracted I missed the parking lot, and I had to turn around in a driveway that had a sign reading "ABSOLUTELY NO TURN-AROUNDS."  Tee hee.

six flags great america sits right on I-94 and there are always cars slowing down every time i drive past.

SFWoA is right by state route 43 and people pull over to look and watch SUE.  There have been many accidents of people just stopping.  PKD is partially visible from the highway, i saw the tower, hypersonic, and volcano, but i was looking very hard.  You can see PKIs drop zone from miles away.  I can see BKF from my house!  Just the top of the lift but still being able to drive 30 seconds and see a B&M is awesome.

I agree HurricaneGeauga, You really have to look hard to see PKD on I-95,  The Tower is obvious, but i'm always looking hard when I go by. Also I've noticed that Apollo's Chariot is visible from I-64 East.... especially now that they built the new exit for BGW... used to be you couldn't see the park at all from I-64

This summer, I was driving to Holiday World from Cleveland and was completely surprised to see PKI.  I haven’t been to the park in over 10 years and completely forgot it was right next to the highway.  I was so amazed by SOB that it took all of my willpower to stay on the highway and not head towards the park!  I know I was slowing down and not completely watching where I was going.
The Myrtle Beach Pavillion is right by a road. I think that the people who live by the parks or pass them everyday don't really notice the park as much.

I almost drove in the lake when I saw Millennium Force for the first time.
I bet the state highway patrolmen love having parks next to the freeways, the get people to slow down from 85 to 60, its like a natural speed reducer!

Cedar Point- The Amazement Park!

I was shocked to see SUE for the first time we almost had an accident looking at it.
They should build big curves around the parks.

Whenever I am riding with my friend Josh I get scared when we pass by an amusement park because he is always turning his head trying to look at the coasters and he does'nt look at the road. Actually, one time we almost had a wreck in front of Fiesta Texas.
KBF is certainly distracting driving down Beach Blvd with Ghostrider

if i could drive i would certainly have a wreck

Medusa at Marine World comes extremely close to Marine World Pkwy. You are actually on the same level as the station and you can see the train loading.
Last year on I-44 outside of SFStL there was a fatal accident because the driver was looking at the park and not paying attention. As a result the families' van struck the rear of another and then overcorrected into the path of a tractor trailer carrying a very large load of steel and struck broadside. 5 people were killed in the same family with the lone survivor being a 12 year old boy. Since his mother was paying more attention to the park, he doesn't have a mother, father, or any brothers and sisters anymore. Please be careful when driving by amusement parks.
