park complaints

Then onto the Fun Slides. I think this should be a kids only ride...or maybe one slide for young kids and the other for adults. here's what happened. We climbed to the top, placed our mat and slid down. At the bottom I lift her off my lap and then I get up. Well she didn't get hit hard, but it could of been worse and she did get hit by one of the mid teen boys that came racing down on the sides of us. 3 questions...why didn't they wait...why weren't they instructed to wait, and why didn't the op at the bottom warn me? What was he doing? Now if we ever ride that again...and I say if because she is now scared, I will always look back before getting up.

That's horrible, usually there is an employee at the top placing your mat for you and telling you when you can go. Even though they have 2 sets of slides, I have seen them use both sides maybe once since they have been installed which makes the line move slow.

Next, aside from the fact that the crowds didn't warrant adding extra ride vehicles, there really wasn't staff to operate with extra vehicles or extra rides. It is not efficient (or safe, in some situations) to run multiple ride vehicles without guests to fill them or proper staff to operate them. Sooper Loopy had that pretty much correct.

Finally, the Hershey Company stopped supplying candy for the Reese's ride. Probably a cost-cutting move, so they'll only have to lay off 249 employees at Reese's, and not 250.

Hope this helps clear up some of the mysteries...

Did they have that much less staff this year compared to last year? I went on Saturday last year for Springtime In the Park and all coasters except for I think SR were running 2 trains, even LR was running 4 trains and that was with all coasters except Roller Soaker open and rides not scheduled to be open opened such as the Coal Cracker, so it's surprising to read about lack of staff this year. I also agree with the other posts saying they should edit the video and not mention candy.

I was hoping that Easter Sunday would be better overall even with 1 train operations but with it supposed to feel like 26 degrees outside, I'll have to wait for summer*** Edited 4/8/2007 3:51:09 PM UTC by YoshiFan*** *** Edited 4/8/2007 3:52:27 PM UTC by YoshiFan***

^^^Yes, did you see the carousel on Friday? I was going to ride it, but then I didn't.

What I have been hearing about HP my trip this summer isnt sounding to great, but I think it is because of the weather and lack of rides open including GB, LR, and Wildcat(because of new trains!!) So I am not too worried.

Yes, please do not fret about HP in the summer months. It's one of the best parks out there, hands down.

I just wish it got more publicity so that it might draw more people from a larger distance.

Just avoid HP in August like the plague, or you'll be sorry. I know our group was last year. The place gets way too crowded--not to mention the numerous single and double-wide strollers you have to avoid--and the infrastructure has not caught up to all the recent additions.

For some reason, the park has yet to figure out that it needs a lot more bathrooms with stalls for guys than it currently has. There are too many attractions and eateries in some areas that are all supposed to be served by one bathroom. Sometimes, that involves either a steep climb or descent to get to.

While it's too early to tell, I'm hoping The Boardwalk doesn't add to the madness all summer long, as Hershey is truly one of my favorite parks.

Most steel coasters only operate over 42* and even then sometimes need some type of warm up like salamander heaters under the station to keep bearing grease from being too thick.

Wood coasters as well. Im guessing the one train op was to keep that one train in the station as long as possible. The line cutting only happens if you let it although be prepared for confrontations.

It's cold, Darn cold and most events around Cincinnati were cancelled. I know I've been to PKI on days with bad weather they just closed the park after a couple hours.

quick question:

When I was at HP on saturday I rode the Fronteir Flyers. It was windy and I was sailing good. On one sail I caught a really strong gust of wind and from what appeared in the car I turned it almost 180 degrees facing backwards. Is that possible or was it just an illusion from the car? I do know that whatever happened, I never did that before and it scared the crap out of me!

On my last Visit to HP (June, 2000) I KNEW I was in for a "Fun" experience when, 5 Miles from Hershey, State Road 419 became a Parking Lot! In spite of the Crowds I still had fun at the park. The longest waits were for the Wild Mouse, Lightning Racer and great bear, but all three were less than 1 Hour.

As far as unruly behavior goes, if the ride op is just going to stand there and yell and do nothing else, the behavior is going to continue.

At one of my visits to Knoebels last summer, I was watching my goddaughter riding the High Speed and we could hear some noise coming from the Italian Trapeze (swing ride). Apparently some idiotic teenagers insisted on grabbing each other's swings and pushing and pulling them. The op told them to stop. They ignored herand kept going.

A few seconds passed, then the ride came to a stop. The op announced "the ride isn't over, everyone please remain in your seats." A security guard appeared at the exit. The op went over to the swing, walked up to the jerks in question and said "you, you, you, and you. Off." The guard escorted the teens away from the ride, and the op started the ride again.

Those kids who thought they were super cool ended up being totally embarrassed in front of hundreds of people. Everybody from the Galleon to the Whip to the line for the Boats plus two or three refreshment stands watched the whole thing. I hope those kids learned their lesson but more importantly, everyone who saw it happen knows that Knoebels is serious about people who don't follow the rules. More parks should be.

And a complaint that doesnt just apply to Hershey, but ANY public place in my view. Those sneaker with the wheels on the. The skating shoes! You wouldn't wear rolelr blades to the store, so why doparents think these shoes are ok?

Perhaps they have relatives in Georgia....you know, the ones who thought it OK to drop their kids off at the side of the highway at 4 AM?

The lack of parenting skills in today's world frightens me.

I hate those things. At Disney I saw tons of kids skating around and quite a few almost ran into me. At work, almost every day there are kids skating in my store down the aisles.

Parent's think it's ok because they don't care, there was an article about them how one Walmart said not to use them in the store and a parent said they told their kid it's ok as long as they don't run into anyone. Some stores in my area are putting up signs saying they aren't allowed in the stores and I am thinking of doing the same thing. Though I'm sure it will work just as well the no food or drink sign on the door that people ignore.

Even though a lot of parks supposedly don't allow them, I wish they would be very strict about it- deny admission to anyone who has the wheels in the shoe and make them take the wheels out. If someone is caught using the wheels in the park after they were taken out at the entrance, they get kicked out of the park.

A few posts ago I asked the above...but got no feedback. Has this happened to anyone, is it even possibel, or was it just an illusion? I am still thinking about it!

The Heelies (shoes with Wheels) Those are pretty cool I wish they made them in my size, but in a park I find them very annoying when its crowded.

Gary B:

I've read about somebody doing a 180 on the Knoebels flyers, but everybody agrees that those are a lot looser than Hershey's, or about anybody else's for that matter.

One of my ultimate pet peeves are those "heelies". Every single time I see them I want the kid to face plant. HARD. Sometimes I get my wish, and I have no sympathy for it. :)

I'd even go as far as buying the kid a basketball to get rid of the heelies ;)
