Park attendance up three percent in 2000

Posted | Contributed by coastersrz

According to a summary on the Amusement Business site, the top 50 North American parks attracted three percent more guests in 2000 for a record of more than 175 million visitors (or an increase of more than 4.5 million visitors).

I don`t think those numbers are reight for PKI, because what I have heard is that they had a near record year for attendance. (Those figure are estimates)

I didn't hear that from anyone. People Who Know(TM) tell me that it as not the year they hoped for, and with all of the Sonny troubles and negative press in Cinci, I'm not surprised.

Of course the weather here in the midwest was to blame as well.

Wyandot Lake and some of the stand-alone waterparks did horrible!
Morey's Piers are packed during the summer along with the rest of the boardwalk......... the waterparks are what make the attendance numbers so high....... but surprisingly the line for ANY coaster there is usually less than 5 minutes if that.......

5 cards have dropped....... 1 more to come.......... the end of life as we know it is coming
coasterz is right PKI did not do that bad on attendance.
New coasters bring shorter lines... Until som idiot goes and comes up with TTR. Thank LORD for people that don't have the technology trying to emulate Disney... Err, yep.

I'm not surprised about the new SCBB attendance numbers. That whole MTV summer shindig was there, but I am surprised that there was no change.

Also, BGT up 28%? Wowie. That HAD to have been IOA runoff (even though they're three hours apart.) They didn't get a new ride last year (well, Gwazi in '99) and that stuns me.

Six Flags Magic Mountain beaten by two seasonal parks... Hmmm...

Six Flags Great Adventure: The most visited seasonal park. Coulda fooled me. I thought CP had that one, and with Millennium Force. Maybe the SFGAdv attendance is the gangs with season passes.
Pki is my home park and it seemed very crowded this year.More people than usual is my guess
I just realized that it said Knott's was down from last year. Wow! How did I miss that?

Have you ever gotten the feeling that you've been here before? Six Flags Magic Mountain 2001...
I can Believe that great adventure is most visited.... i mean hell if you can get on medusa and any other coaster in 1 day you are lucky........

I have had passes to PKI since 1998 and 2000 was the busiest year I`ve seen since I've had passes. (I visited the park like 28 times) My cousin from Pheonix Arizona who came in during the summer says that PKI is his favorite park (he went there three times with me!)
coastersrz, E-stop:

How do you know that PKI's attendance was higher? Where are you getting your figures, and what are they?
Moreys Piers knows how to handle crowds, there can be tens of thousands of people there on the weekends and the lines for the coasters are 15 minutes at the very worst. I'm surprised that SFGAd, which is about 90 minutes away from Wildwood I believe, only gets 200,000 more visitors per year, and their season lasts at least 2 months longer.
3.2 million was the actual attendance for PKI, because of rain on more than 40 days according to an article that appeared in the cincinnati Enquirer yesterday. (check it out at cincinnati.com )
