Park at MOA becomes Nickelodeon Universe with new rides

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

If it wasn't already, Mall of America is about to become center of the universe. Nickelodeon Universe. Changes at the park will go much deeper than the name. Mall of America is investing about $30 million in park improvements including four new rides, healthy food options and a high-tech ticketing system.

Sweet! Sounds like we're getting a Disk-o too!

I always had my suspicions about the fountain. Seemed like the only logical place to install a free-fall (bouncing spring?) ride. I only hope it isn't from S&S. Not that I don't like them--I do, especially when they're cranked up. But given the noise can generate over time (VF's farting Turbo Drop, anyone?) it might suffer a fair amount of downtime.

The $30 million upgrade cost is more than a traditional outdoor park would pay. Remember, the heavy demolition / contruction won't start until after 10 pm.

Any alternate for that article? Requires registration.
"Camp Snoopy had popular characters, but limited possibilities. Nickelodeon is high energy and constantly evolving."

Exactly why CF should put down the dog and negotiate the Nick rights for all their properties.

It didn't require registration for me to read.

When they talk about the Spongebob coaster, do they mean the Eurofighter that was announced before Nick came in to town?

Will the first hill go straight up, over, and straight down the pineapple house?

Will the cars look like boats?

This could be a whole new thread. But I digress.

Is the mystery mine ride the simulator ride???
"Sweet! Sounds like we're getting a Disk-o too!"

I think that the Avatar ride they are talking about is the Half Pipe.

I'm guessing SpongeBob is the Eurofighter. Themed to a driving lesson? Yes! PLEASE!

Some of the older press releases made it sound as if the Eurofighter was themed to Avatar--but I guess the (apparent) Disk-o will be themed to it instead, much like PKI. Perhaps a bit more subtly? One can only hope.

It's an amusement park Playa. When did subtly become part of the equation? :)

But it's also an indoor park with 500 tenants coughing up lots and lots of money to lease space. So the NIMBYvoices are more likely to be heard...

Oh who am I kidding? A 20-foot tall cartoon character won't make any audible NOISE. We're doomed. *puts head in hands*

I would prefer a half pipe to a disk-o but either one is fine if we are getting a Sponge Bob eurofighter. This is great news. The only ride I can think of for the spring ride is an S&S double shot. I am all over that.

Half-pipe? Serious? Why? I mean, it's a coaster I guess, but if MY money were on the line, I'd go with the proven product from Zamperla... ;)
Because I went on a disk-o at MtO and it did not impress me at all. I'd rather have a bigger faster ride even if it has 50% down time.
http://www.rcdb.com/id3727.htm here is the link to spongebob and it is a lot cheaper then I would of thought. 2.9 million is not alot of money for a coaster these days.

This is very good news. The Park at MOA seriously needed a new direction. This is encouraging. Via overflow, it could even breathe some life into the 4th floor entertainment area of MOA. Much of that area has been empty for a couple of years. Even the Hooters on the 4th floor was dead on a Saturday evening couple weeks ago when we stopped in.
