Paramount's Kings Dominion announces Italian Job Stunt Coaster

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Paramount's Kings Dominion formally announced the Italian Job Stunt Coaster for the 2006 season. The coaster will be manufactured by Premier Rides and features the same stats as the rides at Paramount's Kings Island and Canada's Wonderland.

Yay, another clone.

So much for the new design rumor.

A question regarding the Mini Cooper special effects...

The fact sheet mentions that each car features in-car audio, and the "power slide" effect. The coaster at PKI (and I assume the one at Wonderland) were both announced with these same features.

Well, as far as I can tell, the power slide effect was never present at PKI, and the in-car audio was on for the rides I took early in the year, but was shutoff sometime after that. Does anyone know why these effects (as well as the "subway stairs" effect) were never implemented/turned off?

Either way, PKD is getting an excellent addition in my opinion. I love the ride at PKI, and always look forward to a lap when I visit.

Typical Paramount theming/effects. Not maintained or only initially works. To save a buck. That's why they will always be B class parks.

What are you talking about? At BeastBuzz, Tomb Raider was fully functional (save for the eye thing, which never worked in the first place), and IJ had everything there that was there on media day.
... but did it have everything that it was announced to have?

Yay, another clone.

Yay, another enthusiass.

LOL Moosh! I was thinking the same thing!
The Blast Coaster, Extream Launch Coaster, and now Stunt Coaster... what's with PKD and their need to put "coaster" somewhere in the name of all their major new coasters? ;)
Maybe they think Viginians are a bunch of dorks and can't figure it out by looking at the rides... ;) LOL

Been wondering the same thing. The slide 'effect' is still questionable for what it really is doing or supposed to do. Could just be the set you go through with the police cars.... Also the jackhammer has been non-existant and may not. I heard that the cars get power when sitting at the station and then use it up as they traverse the ride. Sort of recharging the batteries for each run from what I hear. But I have never ridden it yet where all effects were running (except maybe media day).
Did anyone else notice that the Paramount website didn't change their affiliation with Viacom yet?

.... Kinda weird, if you ask me.

Yay for the coaster, I've been wanting to get on this ride, but not to Ohio. Now it's a 45 minute drive. Yahoo!

Actually if I remember correctly, some of the headlights wern't working durring at media day (even less were working two weeks later). Also, the very first day IJ:ST opened at PKI there was a large amount of fog in the last tunnel, something that I have yet to personally see again and something that I wouldn't mind seeing again as it made the tunnel all the better. I also belive that the jackhammering was supossed to be on the ride, but has never been used in normal operation due to the vibrations cracking the car shells. The fishtailing is supossed to get "more extreme" as time goes on and the springs loosen up.
Not sure if this falls under the enthusiass-ish banner, but is it strange to anyone else that PKD is adding their 4th launch coaster when Carowinds got the only one they ever had taken from them?
Well it's about time they announced this thing....seems the rumor of a flat ride coming in addition to IJ:SC were just that....rumors.
No, I think four launched coasters is weird too, and I don't consider myself an enthusiass. :)

PGA got their's taken too!

There's nothing weird about them not changing the PR text yet. The Viacom split has no public timeline, and I assume that it has to be approved by shareholders and/or the SEC.
This is always good news. Definitely making that 5+ hour drive to PKD next year...
Hopfully they'll stop building launchers after this & just go for a traditional lift instead,a hyper sure would be sweet.

PKD really needs a coaster with a decent drop. Drop Zone is nice (really nice) and some of the launchers (XLC in particular) do have some decent air, but that park is noticably lacking in the first drop department.
