Paramount and Six Flags Great America's Double Deck Carousel

Everyone must still be recovering from eggnog O.D., Dave!

I didn't know that the third carousel was built for the DC park. Was anything else built and then shipped to the other Great America parks for parts?

About Disney's America, here's a great site with some of the original concept art...

http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/2825/america.html

It's a Geocities site so don't all go to it at once or you'll probably crash the site. Anyways, a LOT of the DCA ideas were originially designed for Disney's America..the rapids ride with a drop, the steel looping coaster designed to look like a wooden coaster, even Soarin'.

It's a bummer that it never got off the ground, nor did the Great America park planned for the same site...a big part of the problem was that the community wanted too much back. They insisted that so much of the land be converted to public parks by who ever built a park there, homes needed to be on a portion of the land....it was all just a big mess. On the bright side, I heard a school opened up this year on part of the property that Disney and Marriot were looking at, so I guess that's good for the community, but a bummer for us enthusiasts.

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

Well I was never really interested in the DA project to be honest with you.

If Disney had succeeded in building the park it wouldn't've been all that exciting what with the way disney tends to go more for mild to at most moderate thrill rides....at least both SFA & PKD don't try to "soften up" the ride experience the way Disney generally tends to do.

Still it's a shame the GA park planned for the DC market never got built though,as it would've offered even more in the way of theme park choices for the region as well as increased competition for the parks that have opened since then.

And then if it were built, you wouldn't have as much to complain about SFA.

Oh, wait. Nevermind.

Disney doesn't "soften up" the ride experience, they design rides that most families can ride together. Even their most aggressive rides [Cali Screaming, Tower of Terror] are rides ridden and enjoyed by families.

Disney is not and will never be a thrill park...to compare them to PKD or SFA is like comparing apples to a manual transmission.

And just because BWSFA feels that Manual Transmissions taste better dosen't mean that apples taste bad, just that Manual Transmissions get less love from corporate and never add anything new.

:)

I can't imagine why BWSFA would think before making an intelligent post. I'd think that he is pretty used to all the flaming that he gets.
I always say at least he is consistent...

Which is why I think they should close down Darien Lake, America, and Astroworld and give the rides to the bigger, more important parks. But, then, what do I know? I'm 4 hours from the nearest Theme park...

....and you think the good people of Houston should suffer the same fate as YOU, Clint? ;)

Come to think of it, most Houston-ers probably would rather drive to Arlington for a GOOD park anyhow, LOL....or better yet, watch a Rockets game? ;)

And saying bad things about SFA is only going to get Sam on yer butt...:)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

If you knew anything bout me, Bill, you'd know that out of SFGAm, SFKK, and SFA, I'd much prefer to go to SFA;).

Oh well, Rastus, Sam, Ride of Steel, and BATWINGFANSFA can all be mad at me, what do I care? At least some people don't have to pay more for gas to get to a park then they do to get in...

:-P
