Parachute ride defunct

Why? Anyone know? I'd really like to know since the tower is just sitting there and that was a pretty fun ride.

The sky jump! I do remember that ride! I rode it when I was like 4. Scared the crap outta me!! I guess we have Supreme Scream now. The sky cabin (observation tower) which is on the same tower still exists though.

if i recall corretly the ride was closed because of low capacity, high operating costs, and dying popularity because of surpreme scream. I think i heard some where it closed in march 1999. it is a shame though parachute towers are really unique, and parks who have them should hang on to them.

This is probably wrong, but I heard it was closed to make room for crappy Jammer.

I think youre right millforce...that makes sence. But Knott's should still open it to keep the old traditional knott's feel alive. That was my first actual thrill ride I went on. Lotsa sentiments. Oh thee well.

Parachute Jump didnt close when Jammer was built. It was closed a short while after Supreme Scream was. Supreme Scream took the spot of XK-1.

The funny thing is that Supreme Scream & the Parachute Sky Jump were in the same themed area (The Boardwalk) and they were mere yards from each other...well not that close, but quite close.

Is their a chute drop at SFGAdv? I wonder cause I rode a chute ride near the GASM when I was there 8 years ago....Hmmmmm...Is it a free fall sorta ride with chutes? Please Explain.

At SFoT we have one that is just sitting there with the chutes on the tower. I really hope they re-open it.

What was XK-1 again? I forget. I know it was a thrill ride but was it like tampico tumbler? Did it go upside down? Anyone have any old pics of it?

xk-1 was an intamin flight trainer. basically u got in 2 person cars, each with a joystick style control, and the set of cars raised up a pole and u were free to do barrel rolls, nose dives,etc., it was removed in 1997 and was replaced by supreme scream? (sorry if the explination was confusing)

I heard that XK-1 was a painful and uncomfortable ride. And if you've seen this thing, it's really weird looking.

I'm sorry CC, but the Texas Shootout (parachute tower) needs to be removed and replaced with something better. The ride is old, I rode it for the first time when I was I was 12, I'm 37 now. I rode it again Saturday (June 9th) it just isn't any fun, and it sure ain't scary!

I'm sorry but it must go. It takes up valuable space that could be used for a truly awesome ride like Acrophobia! I say re-locate it to SFMM, after all, they were nice enough to give us their Bobsled. LOL!

PGA still has a ride like XK-1, i'm not sure about the name though. The ride featured both shoulder harnesses and a t-bar style heavily padded lap bar.
