Papa John's: The official pizza of Six Flags

Posted | Contributed by Coaster Lover

Papa John's International, Inc. and Six Flags, Inc. today announced a multi-year strategic marketing alliance and sponsorship agreement under which Papa John's will become a Six Flags corporate alliance partner and the exclusive pizza at Six Flags theme parks across the country. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Under the agreement, Six Flags will provide Papa John's with in-park presence in Six Flags parks in the U.S., with the opportunity to reach millions of Six Flags guests annually through a variety of methods

Apparently, Papa John's opened a store in our town but offer no advertising--- no mailers, no coupons, no newspaper ads, not even an index card with the phone number on it. A lot of people are either totally unaware Papa John's opened a store, or else have no clue where they're located.

Considering the other chains who advertise everywhere, and the competition from numerous local pizzerias (who offer excellent pizza BTW), I don't see too many of those SF boxes getting distributed in our town-- that is, if we're within the 100 mile radius.

Papa John's Pizza is yummy!

One thing that I like about park pizza is that it is different than what you can get delivered to your home. Different pizza from different shops have a very different taste to me and I enjoy that about pizza. When I eat pizza, I sometimes look for a place I've never ate from before.

But of course I have my favorites that I eat more often, and PJ's is one of them. So this is neither good or bad for me.

Maybe , because all of the people at SF are so happy ;) , they will have good feelings attached to Papa John's Pizza throughout their pizza eating lifetime. Well...

Branded eateries bring in a lot more money compared to generic brands. Plus, I believe this deal will give SF $30 million per year. Not a bad chunk of change ;)
Really, it's no different than Paramount adding Starbucks to their parks last year. It's a brand that people trust.
It's all well and good that Papa John's will be the "official" SF Pizza, but do you think that they will actually use the "higher quality" ingredients that PJ advertises, or do you think they will use the same generic pizza kits as before with the "Papa John's" name just slapped all around?
Didn't Papa John's change their sauce in the past year or so? I've heard many people say this. It tastes more like any other canned sugar laden sauce now.
If SF was smart, they'd have chosen Pizza Hut, which would directly boost their drink sales. ;)
Pizza Hut = Pepsi, though ;) Of course that would be an inherently good scheme.

I don't think Papa John's would want their names attached to "generic pizza kits" simply because this deal is as much a promotion for them as anything.

John said: "You've been surfing your favorite websites that promoted Pepsi in banner advertisements. You spent a day at Cedar Point a few weeks ago and shared a Pepsi with your girlfriend while waiting in line for Magnum.

But, wait. There are both bottles of Coke AND bottles of Pepsi in the cooler! Such decisions. Well, you've got so many positive experiences associated with the Pepsi brand that you go ahead and get the good stuff."

That's right, John...in the end, I still end up with Diet Coke, unflavored in my shopping cart REGARDLESS of how much Pepsi advertises... LOL!

Coincidentally, UF recently switched to Pepsi...better deal for UF than Coke was giving...

Unless it's free or very reasonably priced, I stick to water at parks, but I do have a weakness for a good ICEE. :) But why pay $4 for a soda when I can have a can as soon as I get home? Plus drinking water keeps you hydrated while out in the sun, and soda is more prone to ruining your day if you know what I mean. I tend to avoid amusment park pizza, actually park food in general, but when I do indulge, I am not interested in the brand name stuff.
SFFT has this really good pizza joint in Rockville. It will be good to have Papa Johns though.
I worked at the pizza joints at SFDL this past summer, and it was pretty good. $17.49 (I think) for a cheese & pepperoni, but especially when it was fresh, it was some of the best pizza I've ever had!

Does this mean Papa John's will bring their own people in like they do for subway, or SF staff manning the Papa John's?

It was only a matter of time before somebody brought Cesari's into the discussion.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's okay, but its nowhere near the best pizza in the world. If it wasn't at Knoebel's, it wouldn't get nearly the amount of praise that it gets. Personally, it tastes kind of like Papa John's to me.

Just my .02, but hey - I barely eat pizza anymore so what does it matter to me.

Rescue131- SF actually uses the same ingredients as regular PJs

DLslave102- The Papa John's are staffed by SF employees (unlike Subway, which are subcontracters) but are trained to prepare pizzas according to PJ specs. Also, a rep from PJ comes in evey once in a while to make sure they are doing it the right way
