Paint Job Cost?

Ok, I was asked about the cost to paint a wooden coaster in general. The person said they wanted to know the cost of the size of Thunderbolt @ SFNE. The person was being very general so I can't really give details. I couldn't really give the person a correct answer because I had never thought about it so can you guys help?

Thanks.

I don't really have any clue but I'd say a couple thousand for Thunderbolt but probably 10,000 for Cyclone.

I'm probably way off but thats a guess.

As the coasters get bigger so do the queue lines

I think GASM at SFOG is going to run in the upper tens of thousands to the lower hundred-thousand dollar range. Of course, it is a "big" woodie, requireing more paint (and time) than a more compact coaster.

Is that a Q-bot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

I am pretty sure most wooden coasters cost upwards of $40,000 for a compete good paint job.

Well, when I was helping out with painting the Blue Streak @ Conneaut Lake Park I do believe they told us that the cost of painting it completely would be around $50,000. I'm sure the cost is different with every coaster depending on the size and the Blue Streak is a relatively small wooden coaster when compared to the woodies of today such as Son of Beast, Colossus, and the Beast for example. That's just my two cents.

Son of Beast isn't painted.....it's stained. I imagine Colossos is aswell.

Anyone know how much for a steel to be painted?

Thes cost is going to vary a lot depending on the size of the coaster and the condition of the paint job. $50,000 though does sound like a reasonable number for a medium size woodie. This kind of tells you why with modern pressure treated lumber, most parks just leave them bare or add a little stain.

Well I know they reported something like 10,000 gallons of stain for Papa Beast in '93.

Vortex's Recent paint job cost in the six figures.

Chuck, who really has no Idea, They can and do sometimes buy paint in bulk, Rejected or something nobody else would buy like the Eifel Tower that is painted in the color of Eifel Tower :)

Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!

Yeah, you're right. I was just saying that if they were painted I'm sure that it would cost a lot more than something like Blue Streak because of their sheer size.

FYI, it can cost around $45,000 to repaint a decent size business jet, and over $100,000 for an airliner. Just in case you're wondering. ;)
