Pack Rat Parks

Why do amusement parks keep parts of old rides in bone yards? I noticed at Cedar Point that in their bone yard, they keep Cedar Creek Mine Ride's fifth train, some old carriages from what I assume is the old sky lift, and a lot of other stuff that I couldn't figure out what it was. At Kings Island, they have old monoraild trains and old Flight of Fear Trains in thier bone yard. Why do they keep these things from rides that are gone or will no longer need them?

I am guessing some can be used for spare parts?

Ooooooo where is the bone yard at PKI?

Does SFNE or Canobie have a Bone Yard and if so were are they located?

Im the #1 Canobie Lake Park Fan!!!These are my top 3 coasters:
1. S:RoS @ SFNE 2. Yankee Cannonball 3. Cyclone

Parts, We may need it someday, It costs what to haul that away?? These are just three reasons that bone yards exist, I am just touching the tip.

Whats life if you never get to the Po!nt?

sfmm has a bone yard next to phsyclone. I think it still has train from sfmm's first stand up in the early 90's

I just want to ride as many coasters as posible

I imangine they keep the old junk because another park may need it. I guess somtimes they barter parts. I'll swap you a Whip car for a two bumper cars. I suppose there junk yard work the same as an auto junk yard but instead of car parts its ride parts.

At Dorney you can see the old Paratroopers going up the lift on Steel Force above the employee parking lot. A year or two ago when I went to get my pass in the winter I also saw a car for the Lazer and a car for Hercules. I bet it would be cool to rummage thru them. I'd love to get an old whip or dark ride car for the house.

Yah, where is PKI's boneyard?

-----------------
Why do they report power outages on TV?

PKI's bone yard can be seen from Drop Zone. It is located to the right of Timberwolf Theatre.

I can just imagine the IoA boneyard. Million dollar plus spiderman cars laying turned over on the dirt. I'd pay big bucks for that!

3)Beast2)Nitro1)Magnum

PKI kinda just throws things around also. They have old parking lot trams back behind SOB and KC parts behind FOF.

Anybody know if SFGAm has a bone yard and where?

Cannobie has one back behind Psychodrome and the Private Pinic grove. They've kept old Paratrooper cars, the old red train from corkscrew, and some of the bad track from Galaxi that they took out when redoing the ride. It's a good thing Corkscrew's last car was cut off, because there was way too much bang in the very back of there.

At PKI there are several "boneyards" or "graveyards."

One, as someone mentioned, is back at the old back employee entrance to the former Wild Animal Safari. It is next to the campground. Currently there is lumber, a ticket booth and the now definct KC's track and supports.

Another is located directly behind Drop Zone and next to Timberwolf Amphitheatre. It currently houses the 4th train to FOF (in pieces). It used to be home to the transfer tracks and trains of the former safari ride. However three seasons ago those monerail trains were purchased by Jungle Jim's in Fairfield and are being added there. There are no monerail trains present at PKI any longer.

Another boneyard is in the area at the front of the park near the waterpark. It holds many older items such as defunct WWC boats, former Nickelodeon climbing structure parks, benches, former PKI GR booths, Wayne's World Car, and (last I saw) KCKC boats.

There is a graveyard back in the woods where Beast is. It is actually located fairly close to Beast's second tunnel (past the brake shed) and second lift. It has stored many things over the years but currently only holds steel cables from the Eiffel Tower and a few scraggly wooden planks.

Finally, there is an area adjacent to FOF and behind Racer that folks often mistake for a graveyard, but it is in fact the storage area for the wood coaster maintenance department.

However last year PKI got sneaky about hiding new ride parts. TR:TR's ride unit was delivered to the front parking lot last year, but within just a day or two was moved to a "secret location" inside the park. And, no, it was not one of the places I listed above. And yes, I do know where....

Sorry, folks my lips are sealed on the location... Hee Hee. If PKI decides to "hide" any other items my money woudl be on this spot. Trust me when I say it cannot be seen by non PKI folk during the off season..... even those crafty enough to take pics from choppers or planes.

When I worked at Great America in Santa Clara, I enjoyed taking a stroll now and again through the boneyard. I even found a discarded plaque to commemorate the Btsy Ross flag (they had all the US Flags out front at one time).

WOF in KC has 2. One is located to the left as you walk to the gate from G through K lot. It can also be "smelled" during the hot summer months. The items here have changed quite a bit. It used to have a Schussboomer car, a silly serpent/funicular car, and several of the old Sky Heis cars. It also had the incredidome remains, several Plunge Rafts and various props from the park. Mst of these have been destroyed. It currently houses a couple Nile pumps, a portable building and several props. The other area is out behind the employee lot (J lot) There is currently not much here. Only a few old zinger track pieces are here (they were not being used when the ride was disassembled) This area also housed the old voyager boats with the heads until they were bulldozed, the trams until they were sold and a errant monsoon boat. The other storage area for WOF is is the caves beneath the park. For those of you who have not been there or seen it, Hunt Midwest (who used to own WOF until 1995 mid-season) has built an area that they call "Subtropolis" It is a huge series of underground limestone caves that they have blasted out. There are several businesses located there and the caves are quite large. WOF has retained a wharehouse there. It is mostly used for storage of Games prizes and park services supplies. There is also an old Timberwolf train with the old single lapbar and no headrests. There are several old ride motors and games as well as many fixtures from the old cotton blossom boat.

84 coasters in Track Record!! Hypersonic XLC # 100 in July. Waiting for the 305 foot drop tower in 2003. Thank you PKD.

SFA has one big one next to Two Face. Fright Fest stuff is stored there. There are old Renegade Rapids boats, old shipping containers, and more. This is where Batwing's trains were before they were put on the track.

There is some minor junk stored behind Roar next to Renegade Rapids. Old Mind Eraser pieces sit next to the ride behind the bumper cars.

Batwing track and supports were kept in the employee parking lot. There is an area behind Typhoon Seacoaster next to Joker's Jinx that has old Typhoon boats (please fix them and put them back on the track if possible!). That is also where Joker's new trains were unpacked and assembled.

Old Python track and trains to the far right of Superman and Batwing, behind the picnic area.
