Outlet mall is only option on the table for former Six Flags New Orleans site

A plan to turn the former Six Flags theme park in eastern New Orleans into an upscale outlet mall is the only project still under consideration after a city selection committee created to review redevelopment proposals Monday rejected a plan to reopen the site as a theme park.

It's a shame that the city couldn't be convinced that the park could be reopened. But, it seemed they had high expectations wanting a park of Cedar Point or Busch Gardens caliber. Or the city really wanted to discourage another theme park operator from coming in. Unfortunately, the park's comeback has plagued by seemingly shady companies, Southern Star Amusements and RCS Entertainment. I checked out the RCS website, and it's very basic and only one mention of a "project". The project being an enormous theme park for Houston. And it's not the proposed mega-park Earth Quest Adventures. Maybe I shouldn't judge a company by their minimal website, but RCS didn't seem capable of designing and building/ restoring a top- notch theme park. The same goes for Southern Star which also had a basic amateur-like webpage. On the flipside, does Provident, the outlet mall developer, capable of reusing part of the park and adding a waterpark as the article mentions?

On a side note, I do feel sorry for the SFNO fans. I drove by the park this past year and that was one of the saddest sights I've seen. The park just sitting there relatively untouched. It's tough seeing Astroworld gone, but it must a lot worse seeing SFNO sitting there.

Astroworld.....Gone But Not Forgotten

Well, I gotta admit, I like "Amusement Park" better than "Outlet Mall"... However, I guess it is better than the alternative (and what the land is really good for) "Useless Swamp Land".

"Yes... well... VICTORY IS MINE!"

But if it's swamp land that will absorb much of a storm surge and prevent the rest of the city from being flooded again, it isn't that useless, is it?
