Out & Back

I don't understand why Shivering Timbers was such a hit and yet no one else has tried to get another coasler like it, It isn't a space hog all you need is a long straight (preferably) piece of land

Settle down it was just built, and you need a VERY VERY long straight piece of land, Maggie is basically the same if you made her straight just steel ya know?

Does CCI know how to make a bad coaster?
But how many B&M newer concepts went up like the Inverted and Invertigos by Vekoma in the first few years, no one (make that very few) parks seem willing to put a large investment into a wooden coaster now

It'll happen...probrably in Japan (their like the same as the copy machine at your office only a different make and model).

There doesn't seem to be that many parks interested in building a new out and back wood coaster.  Most parks have one, although older and definately not as good.  These parks would more likely like to add something they already don't have (i.e. hyper, invert, floorless, fd, impulse, etc..).  The smaller parks that are building the majority of the new CCI's don't have the space or landscape to build them.  Isn't MA pretty flat and treeless, that's a great area for building long straight coaster.  But for parks set in the woods with some hills around a coaster like ST would kind of ruin the atmosphere.  I'm sure others will be built that will be similar to it, but CCI is a company I wouldn't be surprised if they never cloned or tried to "recreate" any of their coasters.

Actually, many enthusiasts agree that if Timbers had some trees surrounding it, it would be better. As for any other parks copying it, let's hope not!

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Kara.  And I think the closest thing I've been on to ST in steel form would be AC, not Maggie.  Of course, ST is right up there in "must ride" coasters, and if the folks out there want to ride a woodie airtime machine, Phly the Phoenix...it's HIGHLY recommended...seat 1-3!

P.S.  Now I've got my name back on both home AND work computers...Buwahahahaha.....

Even though it is not near the size of Shivering Timbers, Timber Terror at Silverwood is a very long, and airtime filled ride.  Built by CCI in 96, it is one of their first rides.

Intamin built Colossos at Heide Park in Germany, and although it isn't a CCI, it is a HUGE out and back, and appears to emulate ST (in a mirror) with the exception of an extended run after the helix.
