FoF is so much better now that it has a lap bar. that's my answer
The only cases where I view OTSR restraints as necessary are on inverted rides like Superman: Ultimate Escape which suspend you face down at a 90' angle. This would not be pleasant with a lapbar.
I prefer lapbars. I like the freedom.

64 coasters ridden (so far)of which 21 are wood and 43 are steel.
I agree with Fierce Pancake. On all other types of rides, a lap bar is all that is realy needed.

Lap Bars are better than OTSR's.
Depends on the ride. Could do with a better design on SOB at PKI. OTSR's are fine on some rides, Just not rides like FOF @ PKI.

I personally do not have any problem with OTSRs because I'm tall and am not affected by headbanging anymore, so I don't really have a preference. Having never been on a looping coaster without a OTSR, though, I couldn't have a preference, now could I:)? I might very well like just a lapbar on a looping rollercoaster.

For me i like what ever go's with the ride. But there are somtimes where sertan restrainets dont go with the type of the ride and you will get ur head bashed when you could just be riding with a lapbar and avoid that proplem.as for big coasters such as kumba with lap bars i wouldent mind the change but it would take getting used to.
rcfreak, MilleniumForce04, I agree totally. Sonny rocks, it fells more "powerful" to me even than MF. That being said, a little of the softer fluffly padding like Hulk has on it's OTSRs would cushion the legs better...coastercraver, find a nice looping Schwarzkopf (Scorpion, Mindbender @ SFoG) - your mind WILL be made up afterwrd.

Lapbars!!!! There is absolutely no need for any OSTR's on roller coasters. Gravity and centripetal force hold riders into the seats with no problem. The only time a coaster may need OSTR's is if the train goes through a loop or an inversion at less than 10 mph. Lapbars will hold riders into their seats just as well as OSTR's can. OSTR's are not needed at all and should all be destroyed. Long live lapbars and their free moving feeling.
Lapbars for sure. I agree with everyone that they could be used on every coaster inversions or not. They just have to be engineered right. I like Schwarzkopf's loopers with lapbars like the Sooperdooperlooper and Lazer. The loop is much more fun because of the free feeling the lapbars going through the loop. The only coasters I don't mind the OTSR are B&M's. I would like to see Arrow trains redone with lapbars to. Vekomas as well. Boomerangs would be so much better with lapbars.

Mindbender at SFoG is one of my top ten coasters! Smooth, fast, lots of Gs (both positive and negative) Just a great ride...I will be destroyed if they put OTSRs on it...

as long as the OTS is really soft around the head area, then OTS's, i just feel more safe in them...

t h e r e s a monkey in my pocket and he stealing all my change, his stare is blank and glassy i suspect that hes diranged.....
As someone who can stand to lose a few pounds, I prefer OTS to lapbars when sharing a seat with someone. Either it is too tight on me, or too loose on the other person. Now, if they were split lapbars........hmmmm

Asking if you perfer lap bars or OTSR's is like saying. Would you rather sit down in that chair over there, or would you rather I hit you in the head with a baseball bat?
i loved FoF!!! It was tight on me though cause i am six foot. I like them both, i would like to see them try laps on B&M inverts.
