Property assessments and taxes have jumped for Orange County theme parks — and so has the number of lawsuits the theme parks and other businesses have filed against Orange County's property appraiser. That's Rick Singh, who was re-elected to a second four-year term last fall despite the thousands of dollars in donations park officials gave his opponent.

It's kind of neat to see this stuff happen as truly local politics for me. I voted for Rick Singh, because I think he's doing the right thing. Since taking office, he's reduced the cost of his department dramatically. His appraisers are all driving around now in little Prius C's getting 50+ mpg, too.
The parks get such a sweet deal on so many things, especially Disney, so I can't exactly cry any rivers on their behalf. If you read Married To The Mouse, you almost feel bad for the state and local government. The net deal is good for everyone, but no corporations enjoy the advantages that Disney does (and Universal, just for the sake of fairness).
