Orlando parks battle head to head with Christian concert events

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

It's a battle of Biblical proportions as Orlando's two heavy-hitters, Universal Studios and Disney, both schedule Christian rock events for the weekend of September 7.

As a Christian myself, I understand why this topic makes some people uncomfortable. Why? Because some people don't want to believe that they were created (they are an accident of evolution) and that there are moral absolutes to follow not laid down by men, but by God.

Of course, with all that's hapening around us, I don't think Christians are the people to be afraid of.

I love Garage/Two Step!  I live in Chicago, and have been listening to it for a while.  In fact, one of my friends has a weekly gig playing two step on Saturday nights at the Dragon Room.

Garage is a poor excuse for House (as in WareHOUSE) music. Just another case of New York folks trying to bite the Chi-Town style.

And as for the UK, much of the music I've heard seems inspired by Frankie Knuckles, Lil Louis, and Steve 'Silk' Hurley (all Chicago House legends)

P.S. What exactly is two step? I've never heard that term before

Two Step is kind of like a drum and bass/ house variant, usually with R&B vocals.  It's not as "aggressive" as traditional drum and bass, but shares the syncopated rhythms.  The house influence is in terms of tempo and melody.  Picture Timbaland doing a drum and bass track for Bilal, and then bump it up about 12 BPM.

There are two step remixes for Angie Stone, Jill Scott and others available from the UK.  There is also a British R&B singer who has a single out that is getting played on US urban radio right now that has a distinct two step feel to it. I can't remember his name or the title of the song though.

My roommates (hardcore r&b/hip hop purists) equate it to the old house/club remixes that used to come on BBD singles in the 80's.  I like it, and think it's pretty interesting stuff.

Don't feel bad about the house scene in DC, it's not that great in Chicago anymore either.  Although I can still get out to see Derrick Carter play at a small venue every once in a while.
