Original Conneaut Lake Blue Streak trains ride again in annual fund raiser

Posted | Contributed by JCS290

The Conneaut Lake Park Preservation Society planned the second annual marathon to raise money to paint and maintain the 65-year-old Blue Streak. Ten to 12 people planned to ride it continuously, and another five to 10 expected to ride it with breaks. The coaster's original 1937 cars have been renovated and pressed back into service for the first time since 1966.

Are the original trains going to stay on?

they look very nice, i think that they would, i dont think that they would renovate the to look nice, then use them little, they probably will remain in service till a repair is needed, and then the old vettel trains will be pulled out and used.

This was a great move by CLP! I rode these trains on Sunday and they are a lot smoother than the NAD train, even though they don't give you as much airtime.

Those trains look great. It's great to see coaster trains getting some respect. A lot of old coasters are still around but how many of them still run the original trains?

Not that I have any qualms about Century Flyers :)

I sure hope they run it next season since I won't make it back up there this month. I don't know how many times I looked at the old train wondering if it would see sunlight again. Am I right in assuming it isn't quite as heavy as the NAD? Hopefully it still delivers a fast journey. Though it probably won't happen, it would be great to see them run both on busy days *cough* car shows *cough*.

Arrow Guy - I'm hoping the same thing, as there's no way that I can come up with any kind of scheme to get to CLP this summer.

It's really encouraging to here that this train is significantly smoother, too. :)

I'm another one who is hoping those cars will be running next year also. I made it to the park in 2000 and this year, but with those trains on I'm going to definately go again next year. Don't forget to make your CLP stay complete by staying overnight at hotel Conneaut.

After spending a day at Conneaut post-SRM I knew I wanted to return someday soon...with Blue Streak running a train that gorgeous it can't be soon enough.

Kudos CLP!

I rode the Blue Streak today. Those trains are pure heaven! The Blue Streak is a completly different ride. The backseat is now painless (and only a seatbelt as a restraint). That bad boy had half hour waits (the locals know the difference) :)

WOW! Half hour?! Amazing. Hopefully there won't be many lines tomorrow! I am so excited to be riding this train. If you know me at all, I'm always saying something about riding the old train... and now I can!

I'm sooo excited!

Can you tell? :)
