The popular website Oprah.com just released its list of "Wacky Family Attractions" in a feature designed to encourage families to vacation closer to home this year "when time and money are in short supply." Holiday World & Splashin' Safari is one of the eight family attractions recommended on the list.
"If Oprah wants to call us 'wacky,' we don’t mind a bit," says the parks’ president, Will Koch. "Come to think of it, it is a little wacky for a theme park to play Jingle Bells in the middle of July!"
The Oprah.com article includes a photo of Santa Claus in his Holiday World summer garb along with a brief history of the park and description of the variety of rides—and holidays—featured at the world’s first theme park. Other parks included in the feature are Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky and Legoland in California.
Oprah.com is one of the 2,000 most-visited websites on the Internet.
Holiday World Theme Park opens its 63rd season on May 2 with the premiere of Pilgrims Plunge, the world’s tallest water ride; Splashin' Safari Water Park opens May 15.
WOW that is great for the park. Congrats Paula and "Wacky" team.
If this causes the same reaction as her book club then Holiday World should see a huge increase in attendance this year.
So now we'll see if the Oprah Effect works for amusement parks.
I don't think Holiday World could pay for better publicity than Oprah gave it.
The good folks at Oprah.com picked 3 amusement parks in their 8 'wacky' attractions.
How mundane must your life be to find an amusement parks to be so wacky?
Then again they picked two caves...
...those nutty folks at Oprah.com and their wacky holes in the ground! ;)

Let me click a few links on the Lifetime network website to finish it off..
Two words: ROAD TRIP!!!!! :)
I think its funny when some know person maks a comment like that! It usually brings more attention whach would be a good thing for that park!
I'm sorry, but she really should have picked the penis musem instead. Then again, I'm sure she didn't pick it because the article was about vacationing close to home. ;)
Shoot, I wish we had a penis museum. I must have penis museum envy.
Also glad SDC got some props. LegoLand was simply amazing, and all the HFEC parks deserve more love from the regular press (HFEC already gets plenty of love in this particular niche market, LOL).
Does this mean we can expect HW to build a Wacky Shack in the near future? ;-)
^ No, they are now required to build a "wacky" Oprah Shrine.
