Opening day at Cedarpoint, crowded or not?

I am planning on visiting Cedarpoint this Sunday with a bunch of my friends. I was wondering if anyone has visited Cedarpoint before on opening day and if you would know how crowded it usually is? Since there are no new roller coasters opening this year we figured that opening day will not be as crowded as last year. I go to college out here in Ohio and this is my first trip to Cedarpoint so I am really excited. We will be at the park all day on Sunday and I was just trying to get a heads up on what kind of crowds to expect. Also if anyone has any good tips for either getting discounts on admission or just general information about the park like what rides to hit first and where to eat, it would really be appreciated. By the way, who else is going to Cedarpoint on opening day?
I Can't Wait Till Sunday!!!! My first ride on Millennium Force is gonna be SWEET!!!

Hmmm...Where did I put that 8-ball...

Dave's right - the only thing you can do is hope. With CP, you never know, honestly. I'd recommend a weekday in May if you're looking for small crowds. Any weekend is a crapshoot and any weekend in July/August is a definite no-no. :)

Thanks a lot guys, I was also wondering if any of you know how to get a discount on the admission price? I know the website says that tickets are $39.00, but I do not know if there are any type of discount coupons we could pick up somewhere? Like I said, I am from Philadelphia,PA, and have never been to Cedarpoint so any tips would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has any ideas of what rides to hit first and some good eating places in the park I could definitely use the help. Thanks a lot!

When I first decided to come to Ohio for college I said, "what is there to do in Ohio?", well I know now that Ohio has one thing that I don't have back at home, CEDARPOINT!!!!!

Ohio has the hook up when it comes to Amusement Parks!!!!

Find Pepsi Cans. They are good for $13 of in May, Sunday-Friday I think *** This post was edited by Joe E. on 5/3/2001. ***
Yeah, the Pepsi cans are a deal you just can't beat. I would go on opening day but I have a baseball double-header, so the following Wednesday I'm going to be "sick" from school, "cough cough".
The Getaway Guide 2001 has all the discounts you need!
10 bucks off of 2 days (ride&ride again)
(ie: $62 becomes $52)
Thanks so much guys, you have been a real help. I am going to run to the store tomorrow and stock up on the pepsi cans!

Another thing I was wondering is what rides you would recommend hitting other than the big roller coasters. We are planning on hitting almost all of the roller coasters but are there any other must-ride rides that we should go on? I know my home park, Dorney, has some wonderful rides that no one has ever heard of that we love to go on and they surprisingly deliver a big thrill, so I'm sure Cedarpoint has to have some of those. Since this is our first time going to this wonderful park, we are going to hit all the major roller coasters first, but if we have time at the end of the day we would like to ride some other rides. Hopefully some of you Cedarpoint Fans can tell me which rides we definitely should get on and which ones are not worth the wait.

Thanks a lot everybody for your help!!! This is going to be one AWESOME trip!!!!

Make sure to hit the coasters, and don't pass over the smaller ones! Woodstock Express for one is a very fun little ride. Hit Snake River Falls if its open, its a great water ride. Ride the skyway, to get some good pics of the park, and the Giant Wheel for that same reason. Hit Derby Racer, its pretty much a carosuel on speed. Otherwise, there's Chaos, Troika, Witches Wheel, etc. Ride as much as you can, but make sure to get all the coasters. Make sure you get a night ride on Magnum and Millennium Force!!! Have fun, I'm jelous. I don't get to go until June!

Without a doubt Ceder Downs is the one of those have to ride rides. It is exciting trying to stay on your horse, that thing spins really fast. Its Located toward the entrance close to Raptor.
Be sure to ride the train. The second half of the ride (between frontier town and the Iron Dragon midway) is particulary amusing.

Be sure to get the specially marked Pepsi cans. Regular ones won't do.

Thanks so much everybody!! You guys have been an excellent help. I can't wait any longer, only TWO more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One last thing, does anyone know where to get the special pepsi cans? Are they still being sold at the supermarket or should we look somewhere else for them? Also, does Cedarpoint open the ticket gates before 10am? I know back at Six Flags Great Adventure the park usually doesn't open until 9am or 10am but they always open the ticket gates a half hour to an hour before the rides start running. Should we get there at 9am or wait until the park opens at 10? Thanks a lot everybody!
