For travelers planning a theme-park vacation, it is increasingly valuable—although not necessarily less expensive—to stay at one of the resort's hotels. That is, a family may pay more to stay at a theme park hotel, but receive high-value, hard-to-get perks as part of a lodging package, which the major parks are increasingly offering to entice more guests to sleep inside their gates.

A simple matter of economy...this should have existed before recently....
The perks you receive while staying at the on-site resort in Jackson, NJ, are well worth the extra cost.

I don't understand why the Express Pass is not included in your stay at the new Universal resort. I know we had this discussion, but at the prices they charge for their resorts (even though this one is supposed to be cheaper), why stay on property when there is absolutely no benefit to it? Especially when they charge you to park your car and use the Wifi? And it is actually cheaper to park your car at Universal's lot than at the hotel (14 or 15 dollars versus 19 at the hotel).
One thing I will say for Disney is they definitely make it worth your while to stay with them. Between the extra magic hours, the bus system (never realized how awesome the buses make things until I did a few Disney parks while not staying on property), the prepaid meal plans, and more, Disney has things figured out. The new bracelets and ride reservation system will further ease a family's stay (although I still find their ability to monitor everything we spend and ride a little spooky and Big Brother-y). I'm a HUGE fan of Universal and their willingness to make a theme park experience that is not strictly G-rated, but Disney still casts a spell on me every time I'm there. The other chains could learn something from Disney.
Including the Great Adventure resort. *giggle*
