Old park in Indianapolis

Anybody know anything about the old park that used to be in Indianapolis, IN.

I think it was called Riverside and on the west side of town near the White River and I believe it was up around 30th street.

If you know of a site that has info, esp. pictures of this park please post it here.

Thanks

I don't know much about the park, but there's a short movie called "Riverside Lost" that offers a look at it.  It's available from LSVideo (www.lsvideo.com) for about $10 on a tape called "Revenge of Floor Sweepings."  ("Floor Sweepings" is LSVideo's anthology series, one-of-a-kind collections of oddball shorts, clips and outtakes from all over the place.)

Made in 1979, "Riverside Lost" is only about 7.5 minutes long.  It consists of footage of the abandoned, crumbling and overgrown park, with a soundtrack of former park patrons sharing their fond memories of the place.  I don't know when Riverside closed, but judging from the extent of the overgrowth, I'd guess that in 1979 it had been closed for more than five years for sure, and probably more like 10-20 years.

The footage is absolutely fascinating, with lots of shots of the ruined coasters, as well as other still-standing rides and entertainment areas.  Unfortunately, the film itself is in no better shape than the park was at the time.  As often happens with old movie film, the color here has deteriorated to mostly red, and details are sometimes fuzzy.  Too bad.  The images are great, with heartbraking shots from the top of the coaster hills, looking down into broken, tree-choked drops.  Maybe someday someone will uncover a better copy of this film, but the folks at LSVideo are the master detectives of this kind of stuff, and it's thanks to them that an uncommercial item like this is even available to us at all.
