Maybe it's dealing with sub-zero temperatures every winter of my life, but what would those non-summer months be without snow and cold? I wouldn't want to live in Florida: Hot and humid all year? This Chicagoland native prefers a little variety to his weather (preferably not the hurricane kind). I actually got sick once from the unseasonalble humidity that is Orlando in Febuary. But the second I breathed in that crisp, freezing air back at Midway? Percked right back up.
No, I don't like cold. But I think I would like not having it even less. If that makes any sense.

Helping The Injured Defeat The Amusement Park Industry Day After Day.
Great American, our temperature tomorrow is supposed to be 75, the day after 67. Today was over 80 degrees (perfect temperature for shorts and T shirts, or theme park weather). There is some weather variation in the west, depending mainly on where u live. The area around Disneyland is more steady througout the year than other areas in the LA metro area.
It only gets really cold at night, after 8pm. We have a had a threat of snow (not snowflakes, but actual sticking snow, which schools were let out for, but it just turned out to be the flakes, crazy Georiga). It really doesn't get too cold down here not cold enough to shut down the park.
But hell here if 1 single snowflake hits the ground, people go nuts, they shutdown school, shutdown roads, and the grocery stores are packed like it is going to be a blizzard that will keep them trapped in their homes until 2025.
OK Speedy, quit rubbing it in! :)
I propose, though, that parks like CP wouldn't be as "special" if they were open all year (assuming warm climate). It's only there for less than half a year, so you don't get "used to it". Just a thought.

yeah, i too, think i would miss the cold and snow if i didn't have it.
but when i get a really nice, warm, sunny day in JANUARY, it only serves to remind me of how LOOONNGGG winter is here in Illinois...

Winters are wierd like that arent they?
In VA, where i live, we had a day in november that was 85 degrees! That was last year though. Funny how in october we went to BGW on the last day, and it was COLD, in 20-30's throughout the day.
This year we have had some nice 50/60 days. me and my mom were doing yardwork in late november/early this past year, and it was VERY nice outside. mid 60's and sunny. i just looked at my mom and said "This is a perfect day for riding", and then sighed because PKD doesnt open till march 22nd.

I take it that you live out in Rochester or close to it since you goto RIT? ever go to Great Escape?
Yup, I go to school in Rochester, but my hometown is Scotia, so I've been to Great Escape dozens of times. I have a lot of fond memories of the place growing up. Heck, my afternoon Comet marathon (22 laps I think) was probably my highest single day total up until the Gemini 100! :) I've only been back to Great Escape I think once in the past three years though. It's definitely worth the trip to ride the Comet though! :)
This is probably the first "real" winter we've had in close to 10 years. I remember being a kid and 1-2 foot snowstorms being commonplace, but it hasn't been that way of late up until this year.

Yea...i like the park. It doesnt have the best rides, but it gives you something to do around here. My best marathon on the Comet was last summer. In the morning it was raining alittle, but the forecast said it was going to clear up. Me and my friend rode the Comet 87 consecutive times. We just sat in the back seat seeing how many times we could ride it. Then the line started to build alittle and the ride op said we had to get off. I wnated to break 100 :( but ive ridden it well over 1000 times since its been open :). Definately one of my favorite coasters.
This is definately the first real winter in along time. In the past we'd get a few inches if that, and we rarely had a white christmas, but this year is just nuts. Its like every 7 - 10 days were getting a foot or more. Did you hear the weather forecast for next week? Looking like another big snow storm is heading are way :( I dont know if I can take anymore snow.
Just 2 and a half months and ill be in Florida...i cant wait!!!
