Official Sites

I'm just wondering, but why do you think that official sites of parks are so bad?

I mean they don't have many pictures of the coasters or even stats about the ride. The only thing that I think are good about them is the names of the websites. I wish that they would make them better.

Well, they just don't compare to unofficial ones. UO sites give you pictures, more stats, if the ride is really worth riding, things like that. Official ones give you what they can

Have you seen IndianaBeach.com? They fixed it up from last years...bad design...and now have tons of pictures in the thrill ride, water park, and
shows sections.

Who was at BGW on April 28th.
Some official sites are pretty good. Take Cedar Point's. We watched Millennium Force grow with constant updates, we see some good pics of the rides, and we can watch videos of the coasters. That's pretty good.

Of course unofficial sites have one up on official sites because you get people's opinions, not just your typical "come ride this" marketing.
The CCI web page is awesome, check it out today.
i think it is either customcoasters.com or customcoastersinternational.com, i easily found it on Yahoo just type in coustom coasters international, it is an awesome site, and almost every coaster on the site has one of the fastest loading videos i have ever seen, the small video is better too.

I agree with themeparkne, Cedar Point's site is really good, especially after the redesign. But you have to remember (as we've had discussions on this site before) that all the pics and so forth use up $$$ when running the site, and official sites have to have tons more information than what an unofficial site can have. They have accommodations, employement, calendars, events, prices, ordering tickets and/or merchandise, shows, press releases, etc... An unofficial site only needs to focus on whatever you want it to! :)

The only thing I'd like to see offical sites do it offer links to the best-of-the-best unofficial sites so that visitors can go directly to them as well. Of course, I know that isn't going to happen - why give away advertising? Plus that's what search engines are for.

I really find it amazing that most official sites are so poor. While we need to understand that they are addressed to the GP not Acers, even from the GP view point they do a poor job of showing what the park is like and making you really want to go.

Examples:

Calendars that won't print on a black and white printer and require you to shift to a "print background" printing mode on a color printer. A lot of people don't know how to do this shift. Worst of all are the Six Flags calendars that not only have the above problems, but also only show one month per page making it a real project to print a calendar for the year.

Ride indexes that use a long list of ride names that give you no idea what the ride is until you click and wait for it to load. One to four pages of thumb nails (broken down thrill rides, family rides, kiddie rides, shows)whould be so much better, even though it would require more band width.

Ride photos that might be good photography, but show so little of the ride that you can't tell what it is like. The same is equally true for shows.
The Valleyfair homepage doesn't compare to cedar point's, but then again, valleyfair will never compare to cedar point.
I think it is weird how SF pages use pictures of ride that are not theirs. Example: Change picture for Georgia Scorcher. It has always bothered me!

If FoF got that great of a makeover than why can't I?
