Official Contest Winners Being Contacted

See, I think that's where I screwed up. My entry was in the 6,500 track length range. But it looked cool! :)

Here's a screen:

EDIT: Sorry, screen won't work! I'll upload it on CBGames later.

That screnshot isn't working (says I'm not the owner of the album) - but I'm willing to bet the 6500 hurt more than it helped.

Of course, length is but one small part of the "practicality & functionality" of the ride.

That's where I messed up too. I had a deuling mobius (sp?)coaster themed to a Formula One race(paint job).

If Milli Vanilli fell in the woods, would someone else make a sound ?

I was definatly not creative enough. I'll upload mine here later, but I tried too hard to model it after X, and didn't get creative at all. Oh well, congratulations Lord Gonchar!

i actually thought i had a chance of winning. its too bad i didnt get any letters. heres a picture of my entry http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/4f58a3b9/bc/My+Photos/__hr_my+coaster.jpg?bc_A5m.A8V3nrlgA

if you cant see, the stats are E=7.36 I=9.97 and track length=5,800 ft. i guess it was too long.

Don't take my word as the gospel, guys. I'm just telling you my mindset going into it. I'm not sure if the length really had anything to do with it or not. All I know is that in real life X is 3600 feet long and the recreation in the game is 2600 feet long. That's exactly the numbers I figured I needed to fall between on length. To be honest I was just as anal about positive, negative, and lateral G's, airtime, inversions, ride time, max and avg speed, etc. Length is just one variable of the "practicality & functionality" being judged in this contest. If you look at the stats of my entry and then the stats of the X recreation included with the game, you'll find them very comparable.

Another thing I've seen in some entries is no seat rotation. Read that again. NO SEAT ROTATION! Man, what were these people thinking. Seat rotation doesn't effect the stats at all. Just throw something together that looks kind of right. I spent less than a half hour on the seat rotation on my entry and it was the very last thing I did. It's far from perfect, but it makes sense and there are some nice rolls and head first dives in there. I think this just adds to the ride and is an obvious addition. If you entered but didn't have the coaster seats rotate, you desrve to have your RCT disc broken over your head.

<begin off topic rant about coaster length>

I'm a stickler about coaster length in RCT though. It's my number one pet peeve. I'd rather see a coaster that feels "short" than one that's stupid long. 9 times out of 10 if you see me give a low score around here, it has to do with the length of a ride. I'm like that for a couple of reasons:

1. Length boosts excitement. Sometimes it's clear that a given ride has such good stats just because of the length. Sure a 9 or 10 exctiement is impressive on a big coaster, but it's exponentially more impressive as the coaster gets shorter.

2. Real life rides aren't usually excessively long. As a general rule of thumb I like rides to be under a mile long (5280 feet). Yes, in real life these longer rides exist, but they're usually the exception to the rule...and like all things I can see exceptions in the RCT world. It's just a general rule - like E>I>N.

3. Scenario play. Longer coasters tend to take up more space, cost more and move less peeps. All negative if you play scenarios (and I do).

The one word that best describes the coasters I like?

Efficient.

So everybody get out there and start making coasters that I like! ;)

Remember that if you're one in a million, that means that there are 5000 other people on Earth, just like you.

My problem with this contest is I didn't know when to stop. Every attempt I made ended up in the [at least] 4,000 ft. range, and they turned out super compact. Luckily, I was able to spread the layout out a little more but still ended up really long.

About seat rotation, I too threw this in at the end - but it actually DID affect my stats(?), and the intensity went into the red range. So I had to take the seat rotation out except for minor parts like the lift hill.

Anyways, anyone know any other RCT contests I can enter to make myself feel better? :)

One final update to let you guys know to keep an eye out on the official site. I got the confirmation of my affidavit in the mail today saying that it's all done and nice & legal. I'm a confirmed winner of an RCT2 pinball machine. I'll receive the pinball machine in 6 to 8 weeks.

I'd expect the RCT website to add the winners sometime relatively soon.

I just got a package from UPS today and inside was a Rollercoaster Tycoon Board Game and a note that said I won a "Finalist Prize" in the Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 contest. I was very suprized and excited. I really didn't expect to win anything. Its not as cool as a pinball machine, and I already have the board game, but just the thought that I actually won a prize is really cool and exciting. I will just have to give the second game to a friend who also loves roller coasters!

Very cool, coastertigger. I'm hoping that 6 to 8 weeks turns into 6 to 8 days ;)

Looks like there were a lot of board games handed out (well, 300, but I mean to buzzers). I'm still curious as to the 3 grand prize winners (trip, pinball machine, computer).

Congrats everyone!

I as well got a board game in the mail. I was very suprised. I thought they had contacted all the winners by now. How many board games were handed out to each group, 300 or 100 to each group and 300 total?

100 to each group, 300 total.

I got the same thing a RCT2 Board Game. Mine was for the high age group. We now need to start making a list of each of the winners that are CB members.

Be sure to download my latest NL Wooden Looping Coaster creation Dream Blast. Updated for NL 1.3!

I also got a mysterious package from UPS today, which contained the RCT board game, for the 16-18 age group (probably the smallest of the three groups). I didn't expect to win anything, either, as mine was much less "realistic" than any of the top winners. The statistics also weren't very good. It was, however, creative (I think) because I did a mobius racing/dueling coaster. You can see it here:
