Odd looking Shuttle Loop

I have the book too.

Actually, Shwarzkopf created another shuttle called Katapult. It looks even crazier. Check it out:

Forget about it. It can't be THAT bad! *** This post was edited by janfrederick on 6/20/2001. ***
I don't like it!!!
As it stands at Flamingoland,(and they do a great job in collecting coasters considerring they're a family run park in the middle of nowhere) it's not in the best condition. The Schwartzkopf cars are probably his worst design. You have 2 restraints, one normal lap-bar, as found on all his other shuttle loopers, and then this shoulder restraint, which only moves vertically up/down, and puts immense pressure on your shoulders. Like all shoulder restraints, they click at various stages, and once clicked, they don't go back up. Once you experienced the high G's on the ride, it lowers to the position you are in and then locks down, so once you bend forward, you can't sit back up. Its THE most uncomfortable coaster I know. Having said that, if you sit back, and hold yourself to that position firmly, do a load of weight training on your shoulders, its a wicked layout!!!
Hmmm...I guess this prooves you can be launched backwards on a coaster. Too bad the idea hasn't become too popular.

what's up with that hydraulic looking mechanism"

I think that's there to help stop the train. If you look at the on-ride video you can see where this happens.
Schwartzkopf uses these to drive the wheels which fire and brake the trains. Its the same as the lifts on the travelling loopers. A set of wheels which run either side of the fin beneath the car, driven by a large motor.Theres a cam shaft between these wheels and the next set of wheels, and the next set.........so loads of wheels at intervals along the track are driven by the 1 motor. But its still uncomfy........
In the RCT world, this coaster is good. I recreated it, (not the right height or speed, just the right layout) and it has an excitement of about 5, intensity about 5, and nausea lower yet.

More proof that Anton Schwarzkopf was always on the edge of genius/insanity... Don't believe me? Take a look at his Figure 8 model ride... Holy crap.

I think the Mindbender in the West Edmonton Mall has the same kind of trains. I agree, they are very uncomfortable, especially for tall people. While the ride was awesome, probably in my top 10 so far, the trains really do need to be changed somehow.
SAVIOURMACHINE- Funny you should say that......The othe Schwarzkopf at Flamingoland is Magnum, a triple looper, formerly Drier Looping, a portable coaster, similar layout to the Mindbender. Flamingoland installed it last year, and there are again 2 restraints, the usual lap bars, and a strap, with a 4 point connection, like those racing drivers/fighter pilots use!! As a result, Magnum is a fantastic ride. The main downside is the painfully slow loading time...but as Flamingoland is such a quiet park anyway, they get away with it.
When it travelled the german fairs, it just had the normal lapbar. No additional belts! It was great!
