O.D. Hopkins closes doors

According to Amusement Business, water ride manufacturer O.D. Hopkins is going out of business. The story resides in AB's subscriber-only area, so we have little to go by other than the title.

i think they built desart storm a double looper in phx az

Thats a good idea I think I too will take a quick two hour journey west to Adventureland to see how the dragon is running.

As soon as I get my copy of AB I'll let CB know what the story is.

P>C-n-C is also my home park.  I think a new coaster would be awesome, but I seriously doubt we'll get one.  I agree Desert Storm is rough and rides worse than many woodies, but at least it doesn't have horsecollars.  If Hopkins FON face=Verdana size=2>merges/bought/absorbed by Reverchon, maybe they and C-n-C will make improvements to the track and/or trains.   /P>

The Pittsburg Plunge was built by Hopkins.  And it is an awesome ride.  Dont have to ride it to get soaked.  Sad, indeed:(

Kennywood is my home park!!!
I managed Shipwreck Falls, a Hopkins Chute-the-Chute at SFWoA, this summer and I have to say that it was an absolute dream to operate.  Hardly any downtime and awesome throughput made this my absolute favorite ride to work.  It sucks to see such a great company go!

They mite not have ben the first or the co. to introduce the modern Shute-hte -chute. But they were the best.  The splach the slaender in thes rides.  Noi other company can do with water what they do.  they gave Moses A run for his money.

I have I've been on a dozen are so of their rides two exist at my local park(Canobie Lake Park Salem NH) and their a local company for my being about 2 to3 hrs away.  They will be missed.... :^(

OK, here it is in a nutshell. O.D. Hopkins sold their engineering, naming ,marketing and customer base to Reverchon.  The manufacturing  facilities were not part of the deal, remaining under the control of a gentleman by the name of Jerry Pendleton. It is the latter that has shut down, citing a lack of orders for the 2002 season as the reason.  Reverchon has all of the engineering for Hopkins built rides, so in a pinch they can use other manufacturing facilities to produce parts.
