Chicken or egg? Do you put a ride in a location to draw people there? Or do you have to have a location that already draws people in order to place a ride?
Based on what CP did with Maverick (and to a lesser extent, Skyhawk) in FT, I'd say you put a ride in a location to draw people there.

I always find it interesting how Cedar Fair places rides to move the crowds into an unpopular area of the park, but I don't assume that that is the only consideration when they decided where to place the rides. I bet that in some cases, rides are put in areas that are already popular in order to help their ridership, as well (Raptor, for example).

Personally, I think Raptor is a bad example. The only reason I go to that end of the park is for Raptor (and Blue Streak). Even when I part in the main parking lot, I consider that end of the park the part you have to get through before you get to the heart of the park. Besides, that ride is so awesome that I doubt location has anything to do with its popularity.
However, I do see with a ride like Ocean Motion location is very important. Unlike a roller coaster or large scale tower ride, the popularity of an amusement park staple is going to be determined by location. Not very many people are going to go out of their way to ride a carnival ride that every park has. So even though a location in the extreme end and empty part of the park isn't much improvement over a corner that many don't even know exist (and obscured by trees on top of it), it is still likely to lead to more riderership.
Sorry, Deicl. I'm going to have to disagree with you there, respectfully. Cedar Downs, Midway Market, the arcade under the ballroom, the sky ride; Raptor's entrance is located in a high traffic area. Although it is a popular high profile ride, it is well known that it's ridership is also affected by it's location. It gets a crazy long line early in the day, when people are entering the park, because people have to go passed it to get the the rest of the park.
On the other hand, Windseeker's new location (Ocean Motion's old location) is in an area were people could easily miss. The walkway between Scrambler and the beach gate goes unseen by a lot of park visitors. (That could have changed since Planet Snoopy was put in. I haven't been there in a few years.)

Nah, the foot traffic back that way doesn't seem to have picked up, as far I can tell. It will indeed be interesting to see what effect Windseeker has.

Well, it will be seen from the entire park, and will have the pace spiral and Wicked Twister near it. The power of three; wienie style! ;)

But, did WT really add that much foot traffic to that area of the park? It seems to be dead in that area everytime i am at the point, except for maybe Halloweekends.
Pictures of ocean motions new home, and the status of ocean motion can be found here....
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Great pics Crazy Horse. I had no idea Troika and Calypso get torn down to the bare bones. I agree that Chaos is most likely gone for good. Again, great pics! Job well done...

Is that S.O.P. for flats like that in the winter? Or is that a sign they may be removed as well? They're both included among my favorite non-coaster rides at the park, so I'd be disappointed if that was the case.
The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

All the flat rides are stripped down to the bones in the winter. They refurb all the parts and check for cracks or stress.

I don't think they don't always srip every ride down that far every year. I'm pretty sure we've seen rides in view of the webcams just get covered.

It was very cool of Cedar Point to allow the Great Ohio Coaster Club to have the tour. I had a lot of fun. I hope to post some pictures tonight.

It looks as if choas is not going to return next year. It has been removed from cedarpoints website.
"If" the plan all along was to remove choas, woulden't ocean motion fit in it's spot better than at the front of the park?

Maybe there is already plans for something else to come to that spot. Maybe a Planet Snoopy coaster?
Ohio the WindSeeker Capital of the World!
I don't like the idea of putting Ocean Motion in Chaos's old spot. The ballroom would ruin the theming, in my opinion.
Of course, that's not going to happen in our universe, so why even mention it? :)

The answer to that is probably as simple as this: They already have plans for the Chaos site.
